I have just had my renewal through for the runabout Mondeo from Elephant.

As always, I never accept any renewal and shop around. This year it was a particularly stupid figure. £290 fully comp for a 2 litre 1997 Mondeo for the Mrs and me is steep considering we live in just about the lowest crime area for car crime, we both have 10+ yrs NCB etc........

I stuck the exact details back into the Elephant site as a new customer and got quoted £158! I re-checked just to make sure I hadn't mistyped, and £158 cam back again.

Do these companies think we're stupid? I did a similar thing with the Mrs' motor a few months back, but that was only a 15% hike against re-quoting.

Jokers.

Is this standard practice with motor insurers, with them relying on people being lazy and automatically renewing?

Ive not had to insure a car for about 8 years so Im a bit out of touch with it all, I wonder how many people just renew?

Can you go with Elephant on the web quote even though you're an exisitng customer?

Last time for the wife's motor I just called them and said I was leaving for a cheaper quote.

When they asked who I was going to, I said Elephant! They asked for the reference number and changed the quote amount the price I'd found.

There's a definite bit of sharp prcatice going down with them. But to quote almost double when last year I paid £170 is a trying it on large. I'd move insurers, but the £158 quote is £30 better than the next lowest so I'll have to call them again and point out their error ;)

insures do rely on you being lazy, same for banks etc. Always shop around :thumb:

Tesco's renewals is the same. Go back on line for a new customer quote and see the difference!!

Best bit is if you take the new quote they ask you to prove your no claims bonus:lol1: . Muppets. :lol1:

Same with Elephant :D

The requested I post back the proof of no claims they'd sent me so they can be sure I had an NCB!

The ploy must make them millions per year

£236 for a new RR TDV8 & i am 27. My E class is £300 but my missus is only 22. It helps to shop around tbh.

Mondeos are pretty high on the list for price, apparently.

My Merc 560SEC is cheaper to insure.

I always shop around, but Elephant or Admiral (same company) always end up cheapest.

When i had my scooby at 24 Elephant were the cheapest ..... £800 odd

I had this crap with tesco renewed got a lower quote, then they send a letter requesting proof of ncb. Ring them up and tell them to check their records thinking that was the end of it. I then get a letter saying they are cancelling my insurance due to no proof of ncb:mad:

I suppose it depends on your area, but we've found Budget to be the cheapest for car, van and house insurance for us.

Buildings and contents renewal came through from the Halifax, £677 :eek:

Changed over to budget, same level of cover (if not better) £292 :thumb:

Thats a saving of £385.

I have a van insured with Budget, renewal due end of week, £146
And the wifes £20k+ 4x4 costs circa £300 with points on her licence and an accident 2 years ago.

Elephant wouldn't pay out on a valid claim and it took legal action against them to get them to cough up - Never again would I use Elephant

I'm sure the renewals are high due to them all agreeing on this practice then when they do these offers to beat your renewal price it's never going to be a chore. of course if people are lazy and renew then they make some extra also.

used to get this alot with the likes of elephant and tescos, low intoductory offer then sting you each and every time from then on.

I ended up calling Keith Michaels (afer getting bored and nowhere on the price comparison sites) and getting a real good deal, and a cost reduction on this years cover!:)

Effluent are cr@p.

Would never use them again, particularly after a pointless discussion with one of their non-UK call centres.

Am now with Adrian Flux. Halved my premium :thumb::thumb:
