Seve retires

BBC SPORT | Golf | Ballesteros announces retirement

He's had a few problems recently :(, a true great :notworthy.

Always my favourite player when in his prime, especially in the Ryder Cup thrashing the yanks :thumb:.

The game wont be the same :(

Agree 100% with you Paul.

Seve made the European Tour what it is today, and also turned the Ryder Cup into a bi-annual match, not the slaughter it once was.

A true great, 5 majors says it all.

I saw him spraying it all over Sunningdale in the Seve Trophy against Monty, and he still won! :notworthy

Just remembered. I saw him do an Callaway day at Leatherhead GC, must have been 8/9 years ago. He was doing some chipping and pitching around the greens, taking questions, and someone asked him why he was so anti 60 degree wedges. He said that the club removes all the skill from the game, and levels the playing field. He said equipment was turning 72 holes of golf into a putting contest, and that a professional should have no need for such clubs. To demonstrate he proceeded to throw half a dozen balls into a wet, almost waist high bunker, and splash them out, all to within 4 feet.

With a 3 iron.

I've seen Seve hitting balls out of bunkers with a rake! The man is a genius around the greens and still is. It's a shame his back gave way as a lot more was still to come from him.

A true legend of the game...:)
