New Member..

Hi folks, new to scoobynet, I joined because I wanted some advice on buying a Scooby and thought i'd better gain all the advice I could before I going and looking at any cars..

I have around £4000 give or take a bit if i find the right car.. Which I think is enough to find a cleanish car.. Just need to know specifics of what to look for when going and looking at cars as there are many cruddy baz wagons out there.. And what i should expect for that kind of money..

Thanks

hello and welcome :thumb:

have a look on scoobypedia there should be plenty of information on there for you.

for £4000 id expect you would get a nice clean example, id suggest looking on the autotrader and try to avoid ebay as much as possible.

pistonheads is another good place to search.

Hope that helps

James

Welcome to SN matey! The car you should look for depends on your age really. I think you will find it hard to get insured on a STI if you are under 25 unless you are willing to fork out for it ;)

Cheers everyone, Im 21 so insurance could be an issue, but then the quotes ive been getting i could push too.. but then its never going to be cheap at my age is it!

What insurace companies does everyone else use?

Ive been looking through pistonheads quite religiously!

At that age go for a uk turbo. Very lucky to get insured on an import wrx.

try keith michaels, ask for gary moulson, say james sent you. :)

have you considered a sport? can easily be made to look like a wrx and they cost a fraction of what a wrx insurance would cost you. plenty quick enough and theres plenty of mods out there for them.

even this ;)

So your looking at some nice 99/00 examples there which are in your price range with service history.
History is a MUST, ensure that everything is up to date also, then check out the servicing costs (an 8 year old car will need a cambelt and a major service which can set you back 600 quid) HPi is advisable also.
Do not restrict yourself to just your local area, heading north, east or west (well not east as thats london ;)) but prices vary and where as you may get a 97 car for 4k in slough for instance, its a 99 or 2000 model in nottingham :)
Oh and aircon wasnt fitted as standard from the factory on UK cars (unless its a special edition) so if its on the car its worth taking note it was a 1000 quid extra ;)

Tony:)
