P1 ownership > UK Classic ownership - any cost increase?
 

If I do sell my UK classic Impreza and stay with Subaru for a P1, will my running costs increase that much?

Insurance shouldn't be too much over what I'm paying now as I want to keep it as standard as possible. I quite fancy getting a rare Subaru and keeping it very long term. My car is quite being UK and Sonic Blue but is still just a 4 door Impreza whereas a P1 is a P1.

I've tried to want other cars - Audis mostly but I can't afford an RS4 and the others just don't seem the "event" that driving my scoob is. Hard to describe it really. I decide I want to sell, someone comes along sounding serious and I bottle out and won't sell it :)

How likely is a under 50K P1 with no rebuild and no mapping likely to blow up? I know there was a spate of them blowing but haven't heard that for a while. I would get it mapped anyway but only for safety as apposed to power - My UK TEK3 car is enough for me really so a P1 shouldn't need any more power for my needs.

I did originally want a wagon or something to fit the family but hey, I tried to grow up and its not working.

you will love a standard p1. Dont worry about the reliability or you will spoil it for yourself. just get a car with under 50k miles.

the only cost increase should be insurance and cost of car mainly. and maybe a very small bit more petrol

Getting one with less than 50k on could be tricky, most i've seen have all had more than that.

I owned a P1 for about 4 years, it's a different car from a STANDARD classic. However, if I was to buy another P1, or indeed any classic I'd only go for one with a knackered engine or a very recent rebuild from a reputable garage.

Well there's mine with one owner 42k miles.... but it's not for sale ;)

Actually, just so you know - my one, which apart from decat, uprated fuel pump, 3 port boost solenoid and tek 3'ed for safety, not power, is pretty standard and puts out about 300/300. It was tek 3 ed something like 3 years ago and has run like a train ever since.

it's fast enough for a lot of supposedly faster cars and the suspension is just so good for UK roads. Go for it.

I had the same thoughts as you.
I sold my classic and bought a P1.
My Classic was superb with PPP and minor tweeks to handling, but P1 ownership is different.
The car is a real joy to drive and people appreciate it
So far costs are identical.
I think the engine problem is overstated.
Only had mine for a few months got it with 30,000 miles on it.
There are some low mileage ones out there.
Check out wwwp1ownersclub.com for decent cars for sale.

Some cars for sale been modified and put back to standard so be wary.

It may take a while to find the right one but you will never stop grinning when you finally get one.

there are definately a few under 50k miles. i nearly bought one till a good s2000 turned up!!!

I traded in a newage for my P1. I love my P1 so much, I paid over the odds for mine, as i bought it from a Subaru dealer, however I got a fantastic price for my 03 WRX which compensated for the higher price.

I am really glad that I changed as I am getting far more enjoyment driving it than i did my last car.

Can you post a link as I cant find it, in the market for a new wagon while I take mine off the road to build for some big power. Was looking for a st 5 or 6 but would consider a ver.4 if it was mint and I took a shine to it.
