Hello,

I am having trouble with gamespy arcade, so cannot play internet gaming.. booo!! enabled the right ports on my firewall, so that is no problem, however according to gamespy arcade faq,

"Special note to WindowsXP users: WindowsXP has a built-in firewall. If you are using 3rd party firewalls/proxies with WindowsXP, you will have to consult both the firewall/proxy developer and Microsoft to determine their compatibility with one another. You'll also need to speak to your game's developer in order to determine the game's compatibility with WindowsXP, its firewall and your 3rd party firewall/proxy."

So does anyone know how to configure the windowsXP firewall?

If your allready running your own firewall why not switch the XP one off? (What firewall proggy u using as I tried blackICE and that wasn't very compatable)

Cheers
Dave

yeah but how?

my firewall proxy server is on a different machine, not my windows xp client - the only thing i can see that is causing my internet gaming not to work on my client pc is that it is windows xp! and after looking around, it seems xp has a firewall built it so i want to configure that! but this is what i am asking, HOW?

Ok so... you have a seperate machine wich is acting as your proxy and your firewall. So you dont need the XP firewall at all so...

go to control panel, Network Connections, there should be some kind of Icon under Lan or High-Speed internet - right Click, then propertices, click the Advanced Tab then you have the choice of 'un-ticking' the firewall or playing around with the settings (see settings tab at the bottom)

Cheers
Dave.

already done that - it is not active, tried activing it, and allowing certain ports still nothing working - used to on 9x, that is why i am thinking it is XP - i was hoping that there was another way of making sure the firewall in xp is not enabled.

I thought that was the only way of enabling it but then I forget how sneaky M$ can be! :(

Dave.
