Buyer beware! Damaged Spec C Type-RA

Just to let people know that we recently sold a Type-RA that was unfortunately involved in a very heavy accident that wrote the car off :(

Anyone who saw it would understand that it won’t be going back on the road or so we thought. However no more than a few weeks after it was taken away we have discovered that it is back!

Be careful when viewing a "cheap" MY06 Spec C

Absolutely disgusting. Makes me feel physically sick.

mart360 09 July 2007 07:38 PM

Quick Q

if it wasn't fit to be put back on the road.... why is it?

is it a cut & shut? or did the Ins co decide it was capable of being put back on the road?

surely if the assessor's said it was ok and it had the required inspections, then it should be Kosher??

if not and you know the Vin No. they surely a call to crime stoppers is in order

Gotta agree with Mark above...

If it was written off as 'non-repairable' and you suspect that it's been put back on the road, then I would consider that as a reputable dealer you would be obliged to contact the relevant authorities and tell them about this.

Otherwise, if it was classified as repairable salvage, then that's that... the buyer will know it's been bent and it's up to him / her whether it's worth the asking price.

Whatever, I don't think you should be throwing out a scaremonger post with so little information - have the couorage of your convictions and tell us what car is and where it is!

You won't be breaking any confidentiality laws - you sold the thing and you know it's history!

stevebt 09 July 2007 07:45 PM

if its a cat B it cant be put back on the road ! but if its a cat C or cat D there is nothing stopping anyone putting it legally back on the road .

Think this post is a little unfair. The guy has said he will provide details to anyone that is thinking of buying one. Hats off to him for bringing it to SN attention. DNC

Ouch!

Good of Litchfields to give the heads-up! :thumb:

After seeing that, I really don't think I would want it regardless of what insurance catergory it was!

scoobyscootz 09 July 2007 08:05 PM

Is it unfair dnc? If so, why? I certainly didn't mean it to be - I just don't see the point in telling half a story!

If an offence has been committed then it is surely an individuals duty to bring it to the authorities attention. Moreso, I would consider this a fundamental requirement from the specialist dealer who sold the thing in the first place!

If an offence has not been commited (i.e. it's been fixed as per regulations and recorded as such), then where's the problem? The register will let you know it's been bent and it's then up to you to get it checked over and decide if it's worth the risk!

Either way there is absolutely nothing to prevent the OP from telling us which car and where, so why not???

riiidaa 09 July 2007 08:18 PM

t-cut 'll fix that up a treat:cry:

PaulC72 09 July 2007 08:18 PM

if it was non part salvage or repairable wouldn't it have been crushed?

gillyz20let 09 July 2007 08:23 PM

the underneath was worse than the top.

scoobyscootz 09 July 2007 08:32 PM

That's all well and good SirFozzaLot, but it would have only taken an extra line of text and the information would have been their for all to see saving us (and Litchfield) the time of making / receiving speculative enquiries.

This is not really the point though...

The OP has already told us that he sold the car on the understanding that it would not be going back on the road. He now knows that it has gone back on the road, so... the point stands - if an offence has been committed then surely he will bring it to the authorities attention and save some poor sod who might not access this forum from getting ripped off?

SirFozzalot 09 July 2007 08:33 PM

Yep, fair point.

TonyBurns 09 July 2007 08:37 PM

That was a really lovely car too :(

Tony

gussy 09 July 2007 09:05 PM

Your right there Tony I saw it just before it was sold.I did hear via pm off the lad who smashed it up,to say he was gutted is an understatement as you know the 06 type RA's are rare in this country one less now but it is good of Ian to let people have the heads up on the car and looking at the pics its been a heavy and expensive bump quite suprised that the insurance have sold it on because of the price to fix it your looking at a 30k car.

I can imagine it now ... Cat D or Cat C, minor damage only! To an unsuspecting buyer there is no way to tell what the damage is [edit - was] hence a post such as this is fantastic in letting the Scoobynet community know that a potential death trap is out there. I would not knowingly let my 6 year old set foot in this car no matter how "well" it has been repaired ...

As I understand it once an insurance company has written off a vehicle it can be any of the four catagories. Yesterday I saw even more badly damaged cars (B in law is a salvage dealer) that were cat C and D and to be honest they should really have been breakers (Cat B)
