how do you get 340-350bhp from sti8ppp (uk)

how can this be done please, so many conflicting ideas especially when it comes to the exhaust it is currently the prodrive system.

my thoughts were{

decat exhaust from turbo back..
rc induction kit
ecutec remap

but some say the prodrive exhaust is nearly as good as a decat one anyway, and most recomend just a upgraded panel filter will suffice but im not sure. if none of this seems to any good why do most seem to have had them fitted. more help please all thanks alot....stew:cuckoo:

ANDYUK300 04 July 2007 01:12 PM

de-cat
fuel pump
panel filter
remap

should see you good for around 340 - 350.

Mine did the first time round, although mine is a JDM so you may see a little less.......maybe not though!!

V4JDMSTi 04 July 2007 01:14 PM

keep hold of your prodrive cat down pipe. you'll only gain about 2bhp and a load of hassle come mot time if you go for a full decat.

B0DSKI 04 July 2007 01:14 PM

The Prodrive Sportscat is worth leaving in the system to avoid hassle come MOT time, it's said to be one of the best sportscats out there. As for the rest of the Prodrive system it's a very restrictive exhaust and you would be better going for a straight through 3" system to allow better gasflow.

350 BHP is pushing the capabilitys of the VF Turbo you have on your (and my) car. I'd of thought with a Green cotton filter, 3" exhaust & remap you'd be looking at something like 320-330 Bhp. (remembering that your STi PPP like most won't be running the 300 Bhp that they are said to have)

You'll not need to change the fuel pump as the Prodrive one you have fitted is a Walbro in disguise

Don't get hooked up on figures though with a decent remap, you'll be finding the car pulls much harder and mush more responsivly.

PPPRob 04 July 2007 01:38 PM

All I've got is an STi panel filter & hayward & scott backbox as well as the PPP.

And then Bob Rawle remapped it and this happened:

Mikkel 04 July 2007 01:50 PM

I've got a panel filter, upgraded fuel pump, racebox back box and centre section and am hoping for the 330-340ish mark when get a remap myself... not sure how realistic that is but been advised it's possible.

RIGHT,

This is exactly what I'm try to do. Spoke to PowerStation last night and they said that " We wouldn't want to take a uk spec new model any higher than 350bhp" Mine is running at 339bhp (UK Stippp 2005) this was made possible with a 3" decated centre section and the Remap (330bhp) the Centre section should see you another 10bhp.

I was also told last night that if I want 350ponies I they can offer a bigger Turbo (Can't remember the name of it) that would work and be under less stress when spooling. Plus I am thinking of getting them to whop the Suspension on there too. Rud not too.

Ps- When I looked at Panel Filters for my spec (maybe I'm wrong?) but the sti (ppp) already has a panel filter coming up where the left fog light is and threes no real point in changing it, not for small gains anyway.

Hope that helps - Alexppp

Alexppp 04 July 2007 03:02 PM

Ps - Make sure that your PPP has the uprated fuel pump otherwise you might become unstuck:Whatever_

all imprezas have the same airbox/panel filter location. Cone filters are only worth if if you are looking for 350+.

Also remember the bigger the turbo the more lag - usually;)

Alexppp 04 July 2007 03:22 PM

:Whatever_ If it helps a all, the Turbo that was offered was just meant to be a better design of Turbo just slightly bigger. When I asked abot lag? he said that due to it's size it will still come in at the same point as the old one. Huh who would want a TD04/5:norty:

Alexppp

GazTheHat 04 July 2007 04:13 PM

If it's the figure you're after, 350 is tough, as said on the VF35, unless you run additives: Octane Booster and/or Methanol.

If you changed the turbo to say an TD05/18g, you will be around the 370bhp mark.

350:
Additives & Remap

370:
18g £1000
CAIK (Cold Air Induction, ie. APS/K&N) £200
Remap.

Optional extras:
Ported/Wrapped Headers OR GT Spec Headers (increase spooling and a little mid-range) £400

Decatting the sportscat you have is not worth it for the gains.

Only change the exhaust if you're gonna go to a 3". Then if replacing the whole thing i'd consider the decat option. Sportscat adds about £350 onto the exhaust price.

Alex, the 18g is what you're after. Has very similar (i feel better) spooling that the standard VF35.

bob r 04 July 2007 04:21 PM

Echo all above really.

Not many UK cars seem to make above 340 bp but I think the WRC 350 conversion uses a bigger top mount, I/kit, and 3" exhaust to gain the extra.

Mine got near 340 at Powerstation which I was pleased with.:)

350/355 is very impressve with those mods. I think the R/R is faulty :wonder:

hardsy555 04 July 2007 05:05 PM

well that has all been very helpfull so realisticaly the sti ppp uk cannot top the 350 mk without big tweeks, that said though ive just spoken to a tuner in the plymouth area and he has said that with what i said in the first place 340ish is acchievable?

i think first il just go for a new panal filter and the remap. so if i replace the exhaust is it best to just replace the section from the cat back and this will remove the big thing in the middle(what ever that is )...

yes its to small

my 05 sti is running 354 bhp 323lb/ft

MODS are
RCM Tubular manifold & venturi up pipe with ext temp sensor in up pipe
RCM 3" open neck down pipe & full system no center silencer with 4.5" slash cut tail pipe
warblo 225 fuel pump
RCM induction kit big K&N cone
ported turbo housing
remapped by bob r

car went on RR at g-force with bob r in the car his words after seeing it's first run at 320ish second run at 335ish then last power run coming in at 354 ish said its still going up but we don't have the time it will be good for 360bhp
this was on the P1 day last year

Someone is running 370/350 on a VF35, with just headers and methanol. You'll need to map in the methanol (10%). It is cheaper than v-power, so it will be (marginally) cheaper to run. If you can stand the messing around. Octane booster is easier, expect +15-20bhp if mapped in, but will cost an extra £5 per tank.

Only change the exhaust if going to 3". But at the 350 you don't need a 3". Stick with what you have. Only change if changing the turbo.

Get yourself a green filter and remap, that will do. A subsequent remap will be around £200 should you want to go the 350+ route.

The car is more driveable at 330bhp, compared to 390bhp. You have to be so much more focused, better driver and confident at just that jump. You feel like you're clinging on. :norty:

At 330 just floor it almost anywhere. 390 more point and squirt.

That's my opinion, from my experience.

hardsy555 04 July 2007 06:24 PM

ok then that seems the most simle idea so thats probably what i will do for NOW..the rest can come later when im feeling braver.

with respect mate, and i'm sure you love the car and how it goes now, but allowing 23% for transmission loss is a guaranteed way to get you going home with a smile;)

scooby tranny loss is more like 13% which makes yours about 320/325 which is more like it for the mods. i would add though that this is a pretty good figure for PPP remap, but going to andy i would expect good things to happen:D

What's up the power spiking like that? Should the curve not be as smooth as possible?

Robocop 04 July 2007 07:26 PM

Looks like it's done on Delta Dash or whatever it's called.

Yes, delta dash :thumb:

automodellistagt 05 July 2007 12:26 AM

i spoke to tsl about a year ago and we talked about the getting the exisiting manifold ported, polished and ceramic coated to achieve 350/350 on a ppp + their 333 conversion. any bigger id require a different turbo,

funnily enough theyve added it to their list the buggers!

but think do you really need it? i think my car is pretty much as fast as it needs to be on the road with its current driver, the roads i like and the current suspension stuff. I dont want a car that reminds me of my old Gran Tourismo modified 1000bhp supra on the ps2 that was awesome till it hit a corner. If its about straight line speed buy a different car, if its about pub figures buy a different car, if its about an impreza take some driving lessons, i reckon you'll have more fun. :-)

hardsy555 05 July 2007 05:52 PM

i think you have hit the nail on the head..

Alright Gaz,

When I spoke to Powerstation they said that a Something something Roller ball bearing Turbo which is meant to be slightly bigger than the Standard. I just can't remember the name of it. Plus there doing a good deal on Type 25 suspention. Thats the plan that should sufice and kind of meet my needs/wants half way without spending too much £££, as I should be selling it in 2 yrs.

Alex
