I have heard it is over 3 hours long, do i need to take a pack lunch ??
|
not if u r seeing it in the evening
take a packed tea instead ;) |
Not quite three hours and its not as long as it could be! So much has been missed or cut it is unbelieveable.
Do take something to eat as you will feel peckish, but enjoy, the graphics and the atmosphere of the film are fantastic. |
I'd say it's about 2 & 3/4 hours long + 30 minutes of trailers before it.

I would say that what has been cut or left out is quite believable having seen the film!:D
The film is 2hrs 45mins long btw. Do all you LOTR book fanatics really believe the film is just a money-making exercise? (flame-suit at the ready!) It would be nearly impossible to please all of you and yes, I know that the storyline has been mutilated in its transformation from book to film - but is it REALLY as bad as it's being made out to be? Compared to so many films recently this one was what the cinema experience should all be about - pure escapism. I didn't see the film as a money-making exercise, just an attempt to try to capture possibly the hardest story written and portray it via a different medium. Should it not have been made? I guess my point is that with so few decent flms being made, when one comes along that is good, lets not pan it! This is of course just my opinion, so don't take offense. :D:D:D |
I read the book many years ago, so when I saw the film today I did not have too many hangups.
It was brilliant, 2hrs 45min went very quickly, and I was surprised when the end came, as there was clearly much more to tell. Looking forward to the next instalment. |
Hi Phil, Its OK if you go and see it as they have a 10 min break in the middle :D
|
If you separate the film from the book then yes it is one of the best films I have ever seen.
But as an avid Tolkien fan, it does not do the job and does seem to be a money making scheme, after all is that not what all films are? Just my opinion :) |
someone give chelle a new soapbox, she has worn the current one out :p
|
....how the hell am I gonna sit thru 3 hrs of movie without a ciggie??.... damn health freaks ;)
|
Well just over three hours with a 10 min break to refresh my bucket of popcorn,
The film, well as i am the only person in the world NOT to have read the books, i went into the film not really knowing what to expect, the film is the best i have seen in a long long while, and the trilogy will go on to be a classic as long as the standard of the other two flims lives up to this one, and i could not belive how quickly the 3 hours went in, and i want more. i have now dispached the wife into town to go and buy the books. Read the books years ago (first time in 1978, and many times since). Must say I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the bits that were removed weren't absolutely essential to the film considering the changes made.
Hey, if you think this is bad, then you should see the original animated LotR film. That stopped halfway through, had loads of the book cut out, and no sequel was made for the cinema, although I think there was a made-for TV version of The Return of the King which tied up all the loose ends from that film. Whatever you do, don't go to the pub for a quick pint beforehand as you'll be 'uncomfortable' before the end :D |
Yeah I remember the animated version that was dreadful LOL :D
|
Me and Mel watched the ani one the other day...brings back fond memories of when my daddy taped it on betamax for me...
|
I thought the guy died that was doing the animated version, hence why the trilogy never got finished?

I have also not read the books, although i now have them in my posession.
I did however go and see the film with a couple of LOTR fanatics and their reaction to the movie was blown away apart from the obligitary massacre of the script. And they felt that good points far outweighed any bad points. BTW - we didn't get an intermission, but the film was that enjoyable that I didn't mind (although that long-awaited cig outside afterwards was well received!) DP. |
