Help needed, clutch problem!!
Just done an engine change on a WRX MY97, everything went together ok (usual problems, but got there in the end) engine runs fine, but i can't get the clutch fork back towards the slave far enough, there's about an inch gap. tried pushing it to engage the the release bearing but it won't go.
Shouldn't this just click into place with a hard push? Or have i put it together incorrectly?? Anyone help? |
I assume you pulled the fork pivot pin out prior to removal?
you may have to rotate the rb slightly so the fork will click in, then feed through the pivot pin, then on with your hex bung..... assuming the rb is engaged correctly on the pressure plate... prior to fitting the engine... |

How did you get the engine out? brute force and ignorance?
You have to pull the pivot pin to separate the engine and gearbox, if not, it must have been really tough to get them apart!!! The clutch is a 'pull' type, so if you damaged the release bearing or it's lock plates you will need a new kit I'd say, and the engine or box out on re-fit, I normally separate the release bearing from the cover (cover needs to be off), put the clip back on, and fit pivot arm and bearing. once the box is in and bolted together, give it a little push home, then fit the slave cyl, then test the clutch operation before going any further. Hope you get it sorted easily Adam |

you should be able to fit the fork onto the rb, as long as it wasn't damged etc...
remove the fork rubber boot, so you can see whats going on |

Yup, can do
this is how i did my first. remove the rubber boot and get the 'knack' of slotting the fork into the Rb lugs. Just put the boot back proper after.. |
Cheers :thumb:

danc is dead right. It can be fiddled into place and all will be well.
You should pre-fit the rb to the fork before mating the two. Always check that stupid lightweight locking ring/clip in the clutch. |
