Ethanol eye treatment
I'm booked to have some ethanol treatment on my eye. My daughter scratched it last year, and it hasn't fully healed. apparently they use it to create scar tissue, which fills the gap you're supposed to have between the lens and the bit below (not a biologist!)
Thing is, it sounds terrifying, as does having a bandage on it afterwards, and I was told it's one of quite a few techniques - ie none are brilliant. I want to know about the risks really, but I can't find anything on the net, (ethanol can be used for other eye treatments, and instead of lasers, so there tons of irrelevant hits.) anyone aware of this type of treatment? There's still time to chicken out...;) |

I scratched my eye a year or so ago and now have a detatched piece of epithelium AKA recurrent corneal erosion !! Painful on waking and I use lacrilube at night sometimes.
I was offered treatment including having some sort of multiple needle puncture to the area to try and tack the loose bit of skin back... After chatting with my consultant we decided to leave alone for the moment :D I'd have a chat with the consultant in charge :D HTH Shaun |
Methanol is for racing, ethanol is the good stuff. Ask them for a bottle for home treatment!
Hope its not too bad at the hospital anyway. Les |

if I forget the Lacrilube it gets seriously painful. it got infected a couple of months ago, and it was like having something sharp jabbed in there every few minutes.
