Smoking Ban, Good Thing Or Bad Idea?

This as we all know comes into legislation tomorrow. How will it affect you?
Opinions welcome.

SlimJ_2005 30 June 2007 03:01 PM

It will mean I can happily go out with out the worry of my eyes stinging from everyone elses smoke and my clothes and hair stinking when I get home.

All for the ban me! :D

andyt1981 30 June 2007 03:14 PM

fresh air at last, i hope it caries on raining :lol1:

pslewis 30 June 2007 03:38 PM

Excellent idea ........... a better thing would be to take all the smokers out to the Outer Hebrides, plonk them on a barren wind-swept island and let them kill each other :thumb: :lol1:

Scummy, disgusting, dirty, cheap-looking habit .............. yes, I smoked for 30 years - then my brain kicked in ;)

andyt1981 30 June 2007 03:42 PM

i too smoked for nine years!

been off them for 2.5 years now :)

KiwiGTI 30 June 2007 03:48 PM

Best thing I'm looking forward to is standing on the station platforms and not having selfish wankers blow smoke everywhere.

SirFozzalot 30 June 2007 03:50 PM

Great! :thumb:

No more clothes stinking of smoke after a night out! :thumb:

corradoboy 30 June 2007 03:54 PM

I'm with everyone else. Sick of coming home stinking and feeling uncomfortable due to sensitive eyes. Why should weak-minded addicts have the right to inflict this on me when I do nothing to them ? I also look forward to less litter, as most smokers don't seem to classify their tabs, packets and wrappings as litter. A sensible policy from our government at last !

Mk2_heaven 30 June 2007 03:57 PM

im pretty sure a station platforms gonna be the same sure its only enclosed public spaces:S

andyt1981 30 June 2007 03:57 PM

StiX 30 June 2007 04:02 PM

We have had this for a while now, makes a massive difference in pubs so much better. You can actually see to the other side of the bar :)

All the smokers are stuck in crammed little yards out the back of most town pubs :thumb:

I can't wait till you're all complaining that pubs stink of toilet cleaner and nightclubs stink of sweat.

stevebt 30 June 2007 06:06 PM

Whilst being a non smoker myself I do wonder how the exchequer is going to make up the shortfall caused by the ban.

Have you seen how many young girls are smoking these days??

They outnumber the lads by quite a margin ......... stupidity will always fill up the tax collections :D

We need the chavs and scum to continue smoking, we have no wars to kill them off - lets kill them with fags as they are so thick they don't know what's happening to them :lol1:

corradoboy 30 June 2007 06:49 PM

ASH UK - Why tobacco taxes should be high and continue to increase

speye91 30 June 2007 06:53 PM

I do despair watching the younger generation sometimes Pete. It's true what they say, youth is wasted on the young.

pslewis 30 June 2007 06:59 PM

I stopped after 30 years, about 9 years ago now, I felt awful for 2 years :(

Now, however, I cannot imagine what I would be like if I had continued (probably dead in all probability) - I certainly would not have been surfing last week, I know that.

GIVE UP - do yourself a big favour!

stara 30 June 2007 06:59 PM

welsh ban been in for a while now, the pubs smell eerily different, my clothes after the night before smell..........beery, not smokey , anyways, the plus side is my younger brother will prob outlive me know as he's kicked the habit since the ban was introduced.

scoobynutta555 30 June 2007 07:28 PM

Now that this pleasure has been taken away for some, what will they want to ban next? They'll be outlawing pubs one day, also why not ban gas guzzling 4x4 sports cars, many without even a cat.

Roll on the day when my shirt doesn't smell of beer and fumes from environment unfriendly cars. :thumb:

Can't believe some sit there and applaud the nanny state.

pslewis 30 June 2007 07:35 PM

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!

:D

I would actually ban all cars without CATS and I would fine those who remove them £10,000 - with 9 points on their licence ........... it is killing the planet for the future for the sake of a 'percieved' pleasure now and is utterly selfish!
