boss kit ?????

could anyone tell me what a boss kit is ive just got a aftermarket steering wheel and they say i need a boss kit to fit it.
am i being thick:wonder:

you could try fitting it without one and then see if you can work out what they're talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!
