help me decide
Hi there,
I just need a little advice, I am looking for a impreza at the moment, but cannot decide between a 2002 sti v7 or a 2003 WRX. I need a little help, in the real world would I notice much performance difference and would the sti be much heavier on fuel On Parkers guide it lists about 7mpg difference and for an everyday driver this is a lot and also I know the sti needs 97ron fuel but does the WRX need 97 or is it set to run on 95. I can get a good deal on both insurance wise. Also what about general servicing and parts is there a big jump in the cost of them for the sti, I have driven an sti v7 and found it really good but have never driven a WRX. any advice welcomed as I don't want to make a mistake and would like a few pros and cons of both. Thanks in advance. |
Most people will say go for an STi because if you buy a WRX, you'll only keep dreaming about STis. I, however, went for the WRX because I use it everyday for commuting etc and prefer the low key looks and slightly less hard core feel. This hasn't stopped me modding to STi performance levels, though.
Costs wise: Sti expect 22ish mpg, WRX 27ish mpg, but varies greatly depending on how you drive. I don't think servicing is much different, but tyres etc will cost more. Both should be run on super UL (preferably Shell V-Power). IMHO, if you can afford it and can live with it, go for an STi for the performance and is also more moddable, but if you just want a quick, practical and fun family car, the WRX is all you need. |
Thanks for that have viewed one today nice car but needs new rear brakes, so will have to consider what to offer, at least now I know what petrol to use it helps me decide, going to look at a WRX this afternoon then will decide
Thanks |

would have been interested, but just done a deal on one same as that, completely standard with full history including recent clutch and belt service 51k miles, just will need an exhaust soon as is a little rusty and the rear brake discs maybe as they have a few grooves, got it for £9250 so think I have done ok, just hope I aint made a mistake as not looking forward to the unwanted attention it may raise, but i have to have one to see if I can live with it.

That sounds spot on looks like you got a good deal there , you have to release some of that noise :thumb: dont worry about the attention most people love them and others are either jelous or OAPs:lol1:
Post some pics up when you get it |
will post up some picks, just a bit nervous now of spending the money, but hey its to late now I am sure I will enjoy it when I get it, hope yours sells as it looks good on the photos. I may get a wheel clamp for overnight parking though for peace of mind.

Me Too !
I had a classic, got the same now, sod the fuel you can try and drive slowly (maybe ?).
Better brakes, stiffer suspension, sticky diffs., and another gear... improved cosmetics....need I go on? With a fuel pump, exhaust and a re-map you'll easily get 330 bhp, and my fuel consumption got better at cruising speeds.... Enjoy, Dunx |
