STi aluminium gear surround

Just won one of these on the bay......how easy to fit?

Anyone fitted one to their WRX? It's off the same model year car as mine (2003).

I fitted one on the the wife's 2003 WRX, it's hard work as you have to trim the panel to fit as the WRX is the wrong shape. I used a dremel and you have to be really careful, if you trim too far it knackers the panel and a new one is £110!!!

Good Luck

surroud

Hi mate....:thumb:
did you get any instructions with it....
i fitted a genuine Subaru surround to my UK300
and it was quite straight forward...(mine been the bug-eye shape)
will have a look as i might still have the fitting instructions if you
want them...
Peppe............:)

No instructions m8.....just the surround and the bolts.....it's from a breakers on ebay!!!

If you can find the instructions that'd be great!

I bought the surround and the centre console bit that it is attached to and it was a direct swap for the WRX 2003 one.

Subaru produced 2 types for the WRX and the STi so I'm guessing the gear surround is different due to the 6 speed STi box

DAVE-W 22 June 2007 09:34 PM

Ah well.....looks like it could be straight back up for sale then!!!

Yeah Richie's correct!

Subaru make an accessory for the WRX that's almost rectangular shape and bolts straight on (apart from a wee bit of drilling)

The STI surround is curved at the bottom so needs the trimming I mentioned.

Why not go back to the breaker and see if he has the trim that the surround is normally attached to, then just unclip the old trim and clip the new trim with the surround attached
