I was sanding down some doors and some of the dust has landed on next doors black car

Hi,
Basically i've sanded down all my interior doors with a power sander round the back of the house but yesterday my neighbour came round to show me his black car which has all white flakes of paint on. I wouldn't have thought it would have travelled that far but i must admit i took a lot of paint off and there were 7 doors. Its not illegal to sand doors in your own back yard is it, but the problem is it wont come off. Its not dust, but small flakes. He wants to get it professionally polished.

2 points.

1. I get on great with him and he's done me no end of favours.
2.I'm as tight as a gnats chuff, it'd take an army to get money out of me.

opinions.

Apparition 20 June 2007 06:58 PM

Looks like the army are on its way !
Yve

wrx-kris 20 June 2007 06:59 PM

get it polished you tight git :)

or buy a crate of bud and do it together.....

andyt1981 20 June 2007 07:00 PM

get your hand in your pocket scrouge!!!

this could cause many problems when it could be sorted out easily
what would you do if it was the other way round??

paulr 20 June 2007 07:03 PM

I'll add he's a typical retired person. Nowt to do but moan, but having said that he's been really good to me. The problem is he's really anal about his car and even suggested a respray. Mine's covered too but i dont care.
As i said, its my back yard,if he wants to leave his car in the way tough luck. I'm always up for a fight, the problem is we get on so well.

SteveScooby 20 June 2007 07:16 PM

Is it worth falling out with your neighbour and not getting along for the rest of the time you live there for the sake of a few quid?

wheelwright 20 June 2007 07:17 PM

Don't lose a good neighbour over a few quid......

Good neighbours are a dying breed theses days.

A few quid?. How much is a professional polish?

Paulo P 20 June 2007 07:27 PM

Has he tried washing it? I bet it comes off :lol1:

KiwiGTI 20 June 2007 07:29 PM

Say a lot about you that you have to ask these sorts of questions.

DCI Gene Hunt 20 June 2007 07:30 PM

Prepare to fall out with said neighbour then :D

andy97 20 June 2007 07:32 PM

I work up there, so I'll do it for £35.... AND I guarntee I'll even use clean water :thumb:

Sonic' 20 June 2007 07:35 PM

Did you let him know you would be sanding your doors down and offer him the chance to move his car out of the blast zone?

If the army turn up, ask them to clean his car for him, if he is a pensioner he will be proud of the army doing a bit for him :D

I would suggest chipping in and cleaning his car with him over a few bottles of cold stuff

Longjing 20 June 2007 07:37 PM

Claybar it?

swampster 20 June 2007 07:38 PM

Get a clay bar kit and do it yourself £20ish or cough up for the pro cleaning at £100+

Alternatively start a neighbourly feud and live in misery!

skyline gtr v 20 June 2007 07:38 PM

I did it round the back of the house, his car was down the top of his drive. It was round a corner and then some distance. I did go to the other neighbour to let them know cos they had washing out. His car was way out of range.

Personally what i dont like is the "Oh it'll need a respray" BEFORE he's even tried to polish it off.

SPEN555 20 June 2007 07:38 PM

Burn his house down that will take his mind off it

No way am i paying that.

EddScott 20 June 2007 07:43 PM

If I were him and you didn't pay to have it sorted to my satisfaction, I'd certainly consider legal action to get it sorted. Probably claim off your household insurance?

Crap thing to happen but the point is you caused this to happen. Obviously you didn't mean it but if you accidently knocked someones pint over, wouldn't you buy them a new one?

Hope it gets sorted amicably. Nothing worse than falling out badly with neighbours.

wheelwright 20 June 2007 07:47 PM

why not try doing it yourself using something like autoglym/t-cut

i cant see how it would of penertrated and embedded itself into his paint-work

as its only dust.

It cant have been way out of range if his car ended up convered in all your sawdust

It is a bit out of order saying it will need a respray, it would only need that doing if he decided to wipe his car clean with a dry duster :)

How was it left between you and the neighbour

and does he go on SN :D

JimmyBFC 20 June 2007 07:47 PM

I was once did this when we had a new window fitted on the side, but it was brick dust etc, went around but no-one was in so I left some money in an envelope to get it sorted, he came round saying I should'nt have etc and that it was ok.

Point is, you did it to the car so in theory, get your money out to rectify it, having a good neighbour onside these days is a thing of the past, if hes a wanker, don't bother, if hes sound, sort it out mate. :thumb:

Try the way you think it will work best, if not, be more considerate to your surroundings next time :-0

Patt@firstime 20 June 2007 07:51 PM

Get it sorted you tight arse - not on.

For me that sums it all up, just pay for a mobile valeter to come round and give it the once over, it'll cost you £20 & he will be a happy retired bunny.

The thing you should ask yourself is did you mention to him that you were going to be doing the sanding and it could be messy, thus giving him a choice to move his car or not.;)

On another thought I bet you have bonfires while other peoples washing are out too?:brickwall

:)

Maz 20 June 2007 07:58 PM

You get on great and he has done you no end of favours, yet there is a problem? Am I missing something here? This shouldn't even be an issue, get it sorted guys.

Agreed, so lets see how we can do that. Not go staraight to "oh its needs a respray".
btw,he never washes his car when its windy as it might blow dirt onto it.

Seriously his car was round the corner and a long way away, but obviously not far enough.
