Well it can only be your choice really, i`ve had an evo 8 and 6 tommi mak, great cars never liked the 7 personally, your service intervals will be every 4500k which can get pricey, is it an FQ or just the 276bhp model??

Give it a drive and see how you feel...good car they are though...:thumb:

its the 276 one but the chap said it has an apexi boost control and its been decat. so i dont no what that would make it. it would still cost me 3k to change though?

Saying that, quite a few guys i know had there standard cars RR`d and a few were up on the 276, with it having a de-cat i`d say 285-290, different delivery in power though i found in my Mak, mind you that`s cus it was a twin scroll turbo, the RA gives you more of a kick in the back.

Thing is, imagine what you could do to yours with the 3k:norty: it`s up to you....

your on exactly my wavelengh im only thinking on changing because of handling issues but like you say 3k on suspension will go a long way and some... ive already ordered a whiteline arb and some other bits!!

Well that`s my point, alot of people go for BHP etc and completly forget about brakes, handling, if i was you, id give it a drive, see how you feel get straight back into yours, compare and then ask yourself, is it worth the 3k??;)

Not sure if i've read this correctly.......you have to add £3000 with your car for an Evo 7?

That's what I was thinkin !

RLE 20 June 2007 10:43 PM

Thought exactly the same mate................must be insurance or something or a very very cheap sti8 (or mega expensive evo)

There's no way it should be +£3k. Unless you've been to moon & back in yours and his has just rolled off the forecourt.

Take a lOOk on Pistonheads. I was window shopping yesterday. You should get a good 7FQ or an Evo8 for the same money.

I think i'm gonna have to go for a test drive of some Evo's. To get that impulse to swap out my head.

Mikkel 21 June 2007 10:39 AM

I test drove an EVO FQ340 before buying my scooby. Have to say it was an amazing car.

I went for my scoob on the basis it was, or felt like with my driving ability, a very similar car in terms of performance but it wasn't as "extreme". The EVO did exactly what it said on the tin and nothing more. Not something I could live with as a day to day car but if you want a weekend car it really is the car to have.

Someone on here described them as motorbikes with 4 wheels and I think that hits the nail on the head.

Agree with you totally! I had 2 Evo 7's FQ 300's, and they definitely were not every cars for me, especially getting into it at 4am driving to work for an early shift when I was hardly awake.

If you want that constant 'rawness' then it's a great car. As for handling, there isn't a lot in it, depending on your driving skills. The Subaru handles PHENOMINALLY when driven correctly.

I do not agree that the Evo handles a lot better than the Subaru. You put someone like Solberg in both cars to drive the same routes and there will be very few seconds in it timewise. Very few.

hardsy555 21 June 2007 06:07 PM

yes it is 3k plus my sti8 though it has done 70k and the evo only 40k?

gillyz20let 21 June 2007 06:47 PM

ive had an evo6 and test drove an 8mr before buying my my05 sti and i preferd the sti.

the evo is alot sharper and steering much more direct then the scoob but same here, i found the evos very tiresome as an every day car and not as much fun as the scoob, motorways were terrible and every trip seemed like hard work.

good car if its sits in your garage 6 days a week.

hardsy555 21 June 2007 06:58 PM

right im gathering that to put 3k and my car to it would seem to most as being a bit mad? think il spend say a few hundred on my sti8 and tweek the suspension any ideas anyone?

CkoTuHa 22 June 2007 06:57 AM

go and get the evo, then there will be adequate comparison between the sti and evo. The only correct one - yours.

GazTheHat 22 June 2007 12:05 PM

Did you mention suspension? :)
PowerStation
Stage 3 £1600

Pads & Hoses £350
Turbo, Remap £1100 (After selling your turbo)

You're lOOking at a 370-ish car that goes, stops and handles the corners a dream. The Evo will be a distant memory. (But go test drive it first. :D )

I wouldn't judge the Scoob too harshly until you have at least put the Whiteline and some better springs on it. You could improve your car's handling a lot for not much more than £500.

hardsy555 22 June 2007 08:07 PM

my self i would go for the scoob everyday of the week and twice on sundays its just everyone says about the evos handling. ive looked at the powerstation site and i think il go down that line. but what springs should i fit on after the arb and droplinks?
