ECUs and licencing
 

Ive found a second hand TEK3 ECU, if i bought this would that mean i was then licenced and able to go to Bob Rawle (for example) and get him to remap me?

it would, but it would save you about £150, and the ECU is likely to cost more than that to buy. not worth the hassle.

It's how the EcuTeK system works at the moment ......I have an ECU mapped by Bob Rawle :D :D and he can read his maps and tweak it as necessary.

If I go to a different mapper then he can't "see" Bob's map and has to start from scratch with loads of work involved and the associated cost..

Like you said, its how the system works at the moment. But earlier licenses were not like this, and it was fully viewable...it maybe an earlier mapped ECU.

The Tek3 should be mapped for mods pretty close to what you will fit, but still factor in several hours fine tuning to get it spot on.
If your mods are very different then you may well end up spending a day remapping anyway.
Given the Pauls value of the licence as well then it is pointless buying the ECU for anything over £300- £350.

Cheers guys, its up for 275-300, so very little saving and not worth it then.

As butty says, there may be value if the ECU was mapped for the mods you're running. It would need to be VERY close, then you might get away with running it as it is, but just get it checked. If it were to be remapped by the original mapper, then it could be a slightly cheaper way of doing it.

The maps have never been viewable. There is no functionality within any of the Ecutek tools to download the current map and use it as a base to work from.

I didnt say anything about viewing it in EcuTek tools....

For example someone, not that far from you, recently mapped a car that had one of the earlier licenses and retained the dual boost tables (rear switch/fog/de-mister/whatever jobby) from the EcuTek map, whereas he was not using EcuTek....

He would not have been able to do this from the later licensing scheme....just my two pennys worth
