E mails Subject Matter

Does any one know the number of alpha numerics that can be used in the Subject matter for Lotus Notes, Microsoft, Firefox etc.

A large number of E mails arrival at Contractors Server but not to the addressees.

Think its a conflict between Notes and Microsoft.
