Windows steaming up!!!

Hi guys

I searched and got some info on this, but want to give my specifics and the search results were around winter time.

53 reg STI. Been out playing golf recently in the nice evenings. When I get back to the car (after the sun has gone and gets cooler), all the windows have fairly think condensation on them!! Its like 20 degrees in the day and 14 at night.

Noticed my stainless steel door sill on the passenger side had a small spot of condensation on it. Is my heater matrix thingie fecked?

What should I do, and how much do you reckon? Can I get a quick fix myself?

Cheers

If it's your heater matrix then you would expect a damp patch in the passenger footwell, it will probably be stickyish to touch due to the coolant. Another indication of matrix is the windscreen steams up when the blowers are on warm, in extreme case you will smell the coolant and see steam from the vents. If you have none of these then there is probably just some moisture from another source in the car somewhere, check the boot esp in the spare wheel well.

If you can (and assuming its not matrix) then on a nice hot day park it with windows/doors/boot open (preferably in the drive with the keys safely indoors !), give it a good airing and drying out and see if the condensation comes back.

There is no easy quick fix for heater matrix I'm afraid.

Nope. I'll check the other stuff mentioned above.

Let us know how you get on.

Fingers crossed it's not the matrix, if it is then short term you can just loop the pipes to bypass it while it's warm and while you console yourself and save up for dash to come out to get to the bugger.
