FAO Guys with Apexi FC Commander Controller

What do you use to mount your controller in the car? Mine is just resting on the centre console, but I'm sure there must be housing for something like this so it could sit near to my line of vision or closer to the steering wheel?

Any ideas or thoughts?

Not the way i have mine but you could get one of those air freshner things that clip onto the center vents..... remove the clip part and fix it to the back of the commander so that it sits nice and high and easy to read..... seen a few posts about that in the past...... mine sits on a bracket at the side of the radio, not easily visible but better than sitting on the center console as yours is now.....

Mine's in a mobile phone holder that has a suction cup on the inside of the windscreen, its easy to see the screen in that position while driving.

Like this you mean?

Desoldered all the screen connections and fitted it into a custom fascia.

Mine is in an alpine mobile/ipod holder velcro'd to the dash.

Though I'm sure it was only a tenner last year!

I was thinking of a similar thing using the driver's sun visor. That would look mint, just flip it down when you need it.

Its a bit tricky to do the work to the commander, but once done it does look good. I knackered a couple of tracks on the screen which sent me into a real panic at first. Got it working in the end.

The other problem was getting some tiny LED's next to the screen in order to get sufficient lighting at night, as we all know the original backlight is garbage.

I found this site the other day which shows a replacement screen with EL lighting of various colours. Just in case you knacker the original screen.

Apexi PowerFC FAQ

Just a thought, I wonder if you could leave the original screen in place and solder the new screen piggy back style? Just break the power to the old screen?

Great stuff guys, and some great ideas there.

I've had a look at the Alpine holder, looks tip top. I dont think I'd have the time and patience for the other setup, plus my Defi's are in that position anyway. It certainly looks amazing though.

I used the bracket that comes with the Apexi AVC-R. It was perfect for the job. Mounted it sideways so it angled the Commander at me.

I saw on eBay once (and I wish I had bought it as I haven't seen it since) a panel made to fit in a DIN slot which you can mount the screen and buttons in.
