Anyone gone from cosworth to subaru??

as above really, just wondering if anyone has owned a cosworth and sold it to get a subaru?? If so, what are your views. Personally I would have stuck with the cossie, but that's just me being honest!! I'll just go and get my fire jacket..

Frayz did iirc

I did. I made the right decision, but I still love the old Cossies.

I had a 2WD Saph, good car, but not a patch on the Impreza and I can't see me ever going back.

Cheers

I have had more Cosworth powered cars than I care to remember but the Subaru wins hands down.

Although my Lottery garage would still have Mk2 Escort RS1800 and a Sierra RS500 in it:thumb:

Had a 4x4 saphy cosworth, then a few different brands and then classic impreza, (wife forester s-turbo) and now blob eye sti. Loved the cossie but it was so far behind the subarus on reliability. I wouldnt have gone on holiday in the cossie, I would have had to book an extra week for breakdowns.

Cossies actually make the STi look cheap to run:eek:

I had an Escort Cossie in 1998.
I had a Classic WRX in 2000 and didnt get on with it.
I had another Escort Cossie in 2000.
I had a 500bhp RS500 in 2003 ( used to be owned by Adrian Newey the F1 supremo  ).
I then changed to a UK STi in 2005.
Four weeks later I got shot of it and bought the Spec C I still have now. :D

Have gone totally round the houses! :D

Would I get another Cossie.... I may consider one if they bought a new one out, but I certainly would never buy a previous model again.

Hand on my heart, I can honestly say my Spec C is THE best car I have ever owned and is head and shoulders above any Cossies (which I loved) I have ever owned (and all mine were well prepped and very good examples). Even after 2yrs of ownership (which is a long time for me lol) I have never got bored. I just love everything about my car.

To cap this whirlwind story off.... I have just stuck a complete 2.5L Cosworth Subaru engine in the Spec C, so I can't keep hiding from the Cosworth name. :D

Fair comments mate, not had the chance to go out in a spec C, but they do have great respect. I've been out in loads of other spec Subaru's, and I know mine is pretty much standard, just missing my 3dr at the minute. Maybe things will change when I get this thing sorted out - power wise, but looking in to it I might be better selling it and getting an sti or something!

Have you stuck a Type 25 lump in it then?
what BHP is it pushing?

Agree the Spec C is the best car i have ever drove - i'd buy one tommorrow if i could.

Anyway back on topic - at a recent Subaru RR at Prosport a mate of a mate turned up in a mint Escort Cosworth and talk about gathering crowds - they still look great after all these years.:notworthy

I did not get on with the handling, as it was much more tail happy than the Escort. Something I was not used to at the time.

It has the same "engine" as in the Type25 / Type25 Race Car - full Cosworth Tall motor. Currently it is 480bhp / 460lbft on pump fuel, but we are only running 1.4bar at peak power at the moment. At 1.6bar held it should do 500bhp which is about the limit for the core on this turbo. Full boost is by 3100rpm. :D The bug has caught good... already looking at 600bhp now.

Watch out for the official Stage 3 article coming soon! :)

Anyway....

Classic Subaru Si,
What do you miss about your Cossie.... handling or power / delivery or something else?

power delivery mainly, and dare I say build quality!?!? To be honest, I'm scared to death of giving it hen's face incase it goes pop!! just doesn't feel as solid as the cossie did - I know I'm comparing 2 totally differant cars, the cosworth was running at 400 bhp, but like I say I've been out in a lot of sorted Subarus too. Don't get me wrong, I do like the car, best sound I've ever heard and it handles o.k. The Cossie had serious lag, but when it came in it was really strong - the Subaru's feel a lot smoother on delivery, taking away that kick up the arse that I'm used to. Like I say, let's see once it's been mapped, maybe there will be romance on the horizon in the end:luvlove:
