Sti Type Ra Speeds
Does anyone know the estimated top speed of 96 Sti Type RA obviously unlimited?
|
I've just bought a My98 V5 Sti Ra, I'm told due to the low gearing they max out around the 125 -130 mark - Don't take that as a definate though .
|
I had 135 on my clock with still some to go although it was reving really high.
Think it would have made just over 140mph. |
Think mine shows about 130 on the clock but the sat nav said it was only about 118-120
|
Yeah you're looking at around 130-135 tops, revving high mind.
|
According to my gear calculator, at 7500 rpm in 5th you're at 141.6 mph on OE 16" wheels :D

Thanks gents that helps didnt want to look down at the floor for the speed meter reading but bas definatly +130.
Im used to the big power at top end on my old scoobs will have to make do with the accelration uplift only. |

Ive had my95 wrx at 140+ but im sure a ra would get to 100 quicker ! I do have uprated pistons, fuel pump, air filter etc..
Forgot to mention this speed was on a track not the public highway !! |
type RA speeds
I have a 1996 sti ra v-limited unmodified ( exept for a blitz exaust ) and i have had 140 before the limiter kicked in at 7500 revs- just once to see what it is capeable of. These type of cars are not designed for top speed , and motorway crusing is recomended at the speed limits. These are realy sprint cars I have done a track sprint day at elvington aeradrome and achived times of 13.84 secs at 108 mph on a qaurter mile and on to top speed there's a little room for improovment!

:notworthy :notworthy Im coming for you Paul :thumb: Map on friday. |
If u read The Sun today I would not really admit to any top speeds. Guy on VX220.org.uk is getting done for claiming to have done 150mph. We all like our fast Scoobs but none of us have done over 70mph have we!!

Best I've got in a type R is 148mph on un restricted motorway, think i have similar set-up to you at the time. I'm not sue about V-limited editions tho, 130 perhaps???

P.S. im being a little nosey as ive just bought a MY97 STI-RA :) |
Yes I have gone way way faster than 70mph, just not on the public roads as that would be illegal :thumb:
|
Just bought an STI TYPE RA 95 recent engine rebuild and a few mods. So should be on the best side off 300bhp and the acceleration is unbelievable! I've not taken it over a ton but wouldn't have though it would have3 gotten much over it I think I was at about 6k rev at just under a ton?

Wouldn't recommend cruising on motorway at anything above 70-75 mph on ra gearing.........My oil temp used to sore as soon as i got to 80 or over even for a short period. As mentioend before, these cars are more designed for sprints.
Would suggest fitting an oil cooler which is what I've done, oil temp actually gets lower the faster you go :D Chris |

Liitle worried now doing the journey to le mans next week dont think i will drive to fast.
Last year in the uk300 to be fair we did trot along a bit. Think i may be getting as much air as possible into the engine bay. |

Last year in the uk300 to be fair we did trot along a bit. Think i may be getting as much air as possible into the engine bay. You'll be thrashing it @ 80mph & it's very tiresome on the motorway. Mine is an MY95 Type RA STi & just about hit 120 on satnav. If yours is an MY96 it's pretty much the same as mine. |
It'll be fine, i recently went to the ring and temps never go high when cruising.
I also use it increasingly more on track and have never had issues with oil temps:) |
I've been to the ring and back in my 95 STI RA, I always set myself a 4k rpm rev limit in any car (of mine!) that I drive on the motorway, which is circa 75mph. I tend to opt out of the convoys to the ring / Spa / Le Mans for that very reason.
However, US 6 speed is on the way so I get the same 5 ratios the RA loves then another gear for the cruise - best of all worlds (apart from the extra 30kgs) |
Travelling with a fireblade 900cc hornet and a porche caymen.
Think i may be in the porche slip stream all the way. |
