Reasonably cheap practical 6/7 seater

With the Mrs expecting, that puts us onto 4 kids, so the standard car is no longer going to be practical

So looking around for a reasonable, cheapish 6/7 seater

Currently got a Laguna MY2000 which for the money is a nice reasonable car

Not really sure what is out there except the likes of Lucida's, Space Wagon's Pajero/Shoguns etc

Any help on what would be pratical and cheapish enough to run, would also need to be used as a daily driver for me to work and back (about 20 miles a day so not too bad)

Not sure on budget but probably a couple of grand

Cheap will point you towards a Fiat Multipla or Kia Sedona.

Both have the fors and againsts. Concerning Reliability, size, running costs, parts prices/availability etc. Thus the low residuals.

Things to check...how many ISOpoints (if any) ;).

Alternative cheap MPV is a Ford Galaxy or VW Sharen/SEAT Alhambra. V6 is nice grumbly sounding VR6, but guzzle it does. So TDi is the option- but they can burn oil (so a mechnically challenged Mother I know who is now suffering the consequence of not looking under the bonnet), parts can be expensive - especially SEAT versions (don't ask why). Also makes saure it does have the extra seats (7 seats are extra...5 seats are standard ).

Old Espace is viable, but beware of electric glitches on newer ones and Diesels engines that melt pistons...class on par with Fiat on reilability (possibly below  )

Cheers Ali

Dont like the Multipla, and not seen the Kia, although I think one drove past the house last night

I thought the Galaxy's held their prices and were a bit on the dearer side, maybe they have come down a bit now, quite like the look of the Chrysler Voyager but again they seem to hold their price well

Almost bought on old Espace a while ago, but got the Laguna instead

Called in at a Garage yesterday, and they had a Lucida, a few Pajeros, 3 scoobs LOL and a Delica, all a bit on the higher price range, but none of them too shabby

Out of all of them I think I would prefer something like a Shogun/Pajero, my neighbour had one for quite a few years and he runs his own garage too so maintenance would be ok

The only downside to a Shogun etc is that they are 4x4's and are targets for the government in the coming years
