My97 Sport Project, Not a turbo project.

Im starting my Sport project next week so ALL input, suggestions, advice and ideas are welcome I want this to be a project for all scoobynet members.
The only thing that might put some member off is Im not dropping a turbo engine into the car, Its going to stay a 2.0 sport, Its completely stock apart from the spoiler I've put on so far.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...n84/mybaby.jpg
Idea`s so far;
Exhaust is going to be a afterburner vortez backbox/centre piece and decat,
Manifold is going to be changed to a GReddy Impreza Manifold,
Im looking to convert the rear drums to disks and work the suspension so it`ll be more chuckable around corners without landing in a ditch,
I've been getting lots of advice on induction from people telling me not to since subaru did lots with the air system so a panel filter will be better for gains and keeping the heat out,
Also an ECU remap after those mods to make the most of things,
Like i said this is going to be something everyone can say they had a hand in so all feedback is welcome, From time to time I wont be able to reply to messages on here straight away and might miss some? *hopefully not!* so if you like people can message me on kroozin1984@hotmail.com, Remeber this is a completely standard my97 impreza 2.0 sport with a re-conditioned engine so its ready to start next week. Enjoy!

I'm assuming you mean the exhaust manifold here??

just to let you know that the turbo manifolds will not fit N/A Imprezas :)

good luck with the project though matey :D

try getting a borla manifold, or a replica like i did, its a unequal lenght manifold, which will bring out the best of the boxer sound, i too drive a sport,

heres a sound file

from here

prob is i think that i would cost in excess of 3k to do this.
if you can afford it - DO IT! :)

if your handy with a welder, my mate used wrx headers (manifold) on his sport then adapted it to the sport exhaust....
it actually sounds better than the borla IMO.

the best way to go with a sport is to get it sitting right... you can do it all in stages ie
suspension
rear arb
drop links
bump steer
laser alignment

the list goes on. its unlikely you will see over 150 BHP without crippling the bank, but dont let that put you off.

think of it this way, what ever you put on the sport could easily be took off and put on a turbo at a later date IF you choose to go down that route ;)

The borla sounds lush on a sound clip someone sent me over here it was f*cking sexy so i think it`s go borla first i want to try get at lesat 140 out of it and if theres a supercharger i can get for my sport i dont mind the 3k price tag at least i`d have it, but when i searched the website nothing came up, do you know of a site?

911 01 June 2007 07:46 PM

A supercharged engine in an Impreza?

Sounds a great project to me.

not exactly sure where it would come from poss america...

if you did it i think you would be the first?
and it would be MENTAL!!! :p

i'm sure theres something on .:ImprezaSport.net Forums:. (Powered by Invision Power Board)

let me know if your gonna do it, i would be very interested in the madness :)

MortonPeterash 04 June 2007 01:09 PM

Well I`ll deffintly try and get some details on a supercharger for it, a 3k price tag would be worth it if i was the first to do it, I`ll keep you all posted!

ZEN Performance 04 June 2007 05:34 PM

I thought this was a project thread, not a "find a bolt on power adder" thread? You won't find superchargers for impreza sports on our website, it's not something that we "do", but it could easily be done.

911 04 June 2007 06:31 PM

Some time ago i saw on a Vauxhall Vectra (or similar) a supercharger not much bigger than a large alternator, and there are small units on Jags etc.

I'm sure if you research it hard enough you will find a lead.
Getting in front or through the inlet would be tricky, but all the rest is almost ready and waiting. ie TMIC etc.

Can a supercharger really show a gain over a turbo?

Be great fun though.
Graham.

MortonPeterash 05 June 2007 07:48 PM

Well seeing as this is a project thread and no-one has heard of an impreza with a supercharge I suppose that counts as something other just *just a bolt on*, Rather than just saying its easily done how about something useful such as heres a contact email and we can talk about how we go about it, fitting, prices, locations for the work to be carried out?

gljam 05 June 2007 08:30 PM

there are at least 2 supercharged Impreza's in the UK, one built by Swordmaster who posts on Imprezasport.net and I believe one that was built by scoobyclinic

ZEN Performance 07 June 2007 10:47 PM

Graham has the right idea.

911 08 June 2007 07:34 AM

One of those could be sneaked in where the A/C unit would be and the drive belt sustem is ready and waiting.

Pipes could be tricky but they always are. I guess there is an oil feed to be found too, but it would make a great noise and deliver the goods.

Graham.

I am a dirty American... ;)

Installed my first supercharger back in 2004...

I am now twin charged and making a tad more power...

Most interesting!
Never thought of the Merc unit, but it is bigger then i thought it would be.
I've seen a unit that has a shaft speed multiplier gearbox within it to get the delivery side up to a good speed.

gljam 11 June 2007 08:37 PM

pics and details of the damage????

Think Graham (911) has the same idea as me :D but this could be the ideal opportunity to rebuild it how you want with the insurance money...

911 11 June 2007 10:06 PM

Right on!

MortonPeterash 15 June 2007 08:31 PM
