The F40 beat it to quarter of a mile though;) , the Supra only gained at high speeds.
F40 anyday.

Nat 16 May 2007 09:08 PM

Only about 1/10 of a sec in it at the end. Both v quick!

sienar33 16 May 2007 09:14 PM

Missed the video where the Supra tows the Ferrari

sbk1972 17 May 2007 08:57 AM

Still impressive considering the £££ difference. Also, atleast with the toyota you know reliablity / servicing will be cheaper.

You could make a renault 5 go faster than a Mclaren F1 if you really tried, but at the end of the day you still just have a Renault 5.

Ah but on this BBS that means it got absolutely annihilated

Tidgy 17 May 2007 12:27 PM

although i think ferarris are cock extensions the F40 is the opnly one i'd have, proper super car

skinters 17 May 2007 01:00 PM

Wonder how much dosh it takes to get the Supra to that speed? Would need 600+bhp to compete? Supra weighs 500kgs more too - huge weight difference. I'll take the Ferrari thanks!

chris n`nic 17 May 2007 01:01 PM

Like some of the people say...the F40 isn't highly tuned. 13`sec 1/4 mile with 800bhp lol. There is a vid of the same supra racing a Mac F1...unreal how quick the Mac pulls away.

Chris

DiddyWRX 17 May 2007 01:35 PM

Hmmm I want another turbo lol!

Vtec-Abuser 17 May 2007 07:39 PM

13.2 1/4 for a F40.. Thought it'd be alot quicker than that... A decent spec STI will do that... And as for the 13.7 for the Supra, that's only slightly quicker than mine..

hades 17 May 2007 10:25 PM

I'm pretty sure that the "official" 1/4 mile when the F40 was released was somewhere around 12.4 secs at 124mph, although someone may prove me wrong.

Whilst they're both great cars in their own way, it still sounds better to say "I drive an F40" than "I drive a Toyota" or "I drive a decent spec STi"

Davey P 17 May 2007 10:46 PM

I've seen a video at the same location but this time the Supra is racing a Mclaren F1. The F1 destroys the Supra!

scooby-tc 17 May 2007 10:59 PM

The ferrari was no doubt standard aswell :D.Im sure the supra had the value of the F40 spent on it to compete but id still take the F40 anyday

Beef 17 May 2007 11:58 PM

13.xx is a time the Supra will do absolutely bone stock.

However, anyone who says they wouldn't swap their Supra for an F40 is lying through their teeth - and I have one!

Interesting fact: apparently, when it was released, the only production car with more powerful brakes than the Supra was the F40.

Thought the Supra had appalling brakes?

Personally, I wouldn't care if the Supra driver had time to get out the car and have a w*nk, I'd still drive home in the F40.

Tidgy 18 May 2007 12:22 PM

check out this, suposedly 11.8

Jap spec ones do, UK/US spec ones don't.

scoobyphil1984 19 May 2007 10:36 PM

f40 all day every day!

myblackwrx 19 May 2007 10:42 PM

F40 for me, it can still out accelerate most of the modern supercars.
I think Top Gear did a test betwwen supercars of the Thatcher era and supercars of the Blair era.

scoobfan 20 May 2007 07:51 PM

Fairly impressive, but if you want to see something really good check out google video and the X1 electric car, it pounds a Ferrari and a Porsche GT;)

No car on the planet will out accelerate it except the Veyron, which cost's 8 times as much!!!

Rob

Roojai 20 May 2007 10:47 PM

that x1 looks cool!!

The F40 "only" has 478bhp. A lot in its day, but not much these days, though it is heck of a lot lighter than most supercars of today, about 1100kgs I think.

chris n`nic 21 May 2007 10:49 AM

Yeah m8...I meant that on that vid the F40 was supposed to be tuned to 800bhp which it clearly wasn't. I suppose nowadays you also have fancy diffs and traction control which will ovously help the launch.

F40 all day for me!

Great link, never seen that TG episode

Even by todays standards the F40 is incredibly quick.

0-60 sub 4 sec
0-100 sub 8 sec
1/4 11.5 sec

How many cars today can do that.

If my numbers come up, then the F40 is the first supercar in the garage.

Mind you i might have to get some subtle engin mods done and tweek it up to 550bhp :D

banny sti 22 May 2007 01:51 AM

If you want to see what a proper F40 is capable of, then you should check out the specs for the the F40 LM.
