Soon I'll replace my 325 iX with something potentially faster. My options right now are Sierra Cosworth 4x4, large turbo Escort Cosworth and '98-'99 Impreza. What would you pick?

It would be a Sierra 4x4 for me...I need 4 doors and having the option to get 330bhp safe and reliably (for very little money)is an added bonus;) Its just a shame that Ford still dont make something newer as the Sierra looks are dated (in my opinion before I get flamed:D )......

RAH RAH RAH Nath..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, okay, you've got a point!

If it's for everyday use, I would say the Scooby. The other cars are getting a bit long in the tooth now.

Regards,
Shaun.

It would be for daily use which includes 10+ track days per year. I'm interested what would be best pick if handling and reliability are top priorities. I've heard that Impreza's gearbox is troublesome and then there's that bump steer tendency.

LOL Richard

i had a 4x4 saff and they are a great car and cheaper than the scoob however they can be rotters (theres alot out there) waiting for unsuspecting newbie

The question well i have sold my saff and brought a 330bhp Escort Cossie Large Turbo and i love it so much more than the saff and they get the looks on the road that no saff ever does now days and only the P1 has looks anywhere near as nice

so give it some thought and get a cossie

If you are looking at a general use car AND a car for 10+ trackdays a year. Neither car will suit you unless you have deep pockets. I would still say a Scooby, preferably a bog standard one.

Anybody that is looking to do 10+ track days IMHO needs to look at a track orientated car. DONT even think about using an Escort Cossie as a track car unless you have .....

Upgraded the brakes
Sorted out the fuel system
Big winged the sump
WRC'd the head gasket

You have to appreciate that none of the cars you have mentioned will run reliably on track in standard trim. If you want it to last YOU MUST spend the money on it to make it reliable enough.

I've driven my iX a lot on track with only uprated brake pads without problems but I've taken very good care to keep it in good condition.

Of course I'm prepared to make upgrades to car to make it suitable for track driving. Brake upgrade is costly but essential with power levels we're talking about.
