I've got a standard engine MY00.
It had a Scoobysport backbox when I bought it, a month later I had the downpipe and centre section changed at Scoobysport. Also got a RamAir panel filter installed.

Last month I changed the system from the cat back to a HKS Hiper, which has a larger 3" bore pipe. Is it doing the car any harm running like this (no cats free flowing)or is a standard engine better running with a slightly more restrictive system.

I'm wondering if putting the original downpipe back on will give me better torque, looking at the stats on the rolling road site seems that the downpipe can actually reduce figures on a standard car..

Cheers

John

Well, of course you are doing us all harm by polluting the environment ore than before, but I am sure this view will not be a popular one on this site. If you have ever been to LA or even Denver now, you might feel that performance was not the only important thing to think about as far as car exhausts were concerned.
I guess that as the car was fitted with a cat, it is probably illegal to run it without, even if you side step the rules by putting it back for MOT day.

Suggest moving reply thread to the Greenpeace forum

I know its illegal and I'm a very naughty boy, but I'm trying to make my fr1cking car run better here m8
:D

Are you a member of the Popular Peoples Front by any chance...
Consider the lillys.. :D

Just the response I expected. If you can't come up with a rational argument for what you're doing, try to dismiss me as a crank.
Great job guys.
What is "better" in these circumstances? You obviously think faster even if it means more polluting.
Hey, let someone else worry about the future.

lol

no answer, but my car has 3" downpipe, 3" center and 4 - 4.5 inch tailpipe, no cats, no hassles with the MOT

as for the environment, well, when industry stops throwing out gobs of ****e into the atmosphere then I'll start doing something about my car.

Get rid of the Ram Air filter, it drops goo all over your MAF sensor and naffs it up :( they aint suitable for MY99/00/01/02 :(

Mr Skerry.... this is Scoobynet, of course faster is better.

Tim (soon to be shot of one cat).

Tim's probably waiting for his electric car to recharge and had nothing to do in the mean time.

Suppose he thinks this is zero emissions and the electricity falls out of the sky rather than from some coal fired power station polluting some elses environment!!!

mega_stream 20 December 2001 07:57 AM

I know about my RamAir being pants, it was fitted when I got the car, its already beggered one MAF in the 5 months I've had it.

Seems the ITG is a good choice on here (although I had one of them in my Golf 16V and wasn't impressed with its gloopyness)

Marcus, glad you're happy m8 with your system ;) I must say the drive home after changing the scooby system to the Hiper was "pleasing" :D

Me and the missus - 2 x MY01 = SIX cats in the skip:p

When Pete Croney gets all environmental and stops making them, i'll stop fitting them:D

Oh, and my office window is next to Aldgate bus garage, where filthy stinking bus diesel fumes are belching out all day - despite the fact they are told to switch them off, the drivers leave them running for long periods.....

Get my drift....:D

AlanN 20 December 2001 10:22 AM

I believe that there are official figures that state that cars (worldwide) are responsible for less than 5% of pollution.
Get the contributors of the other 95% to reduce their emmissions by 50% THEN come and talk to me about cats etc.
Otherwise go hug a f*cking tree, hippy.

Alan.
