Prodrive PFF7's or Oz Ultraleggera?
And what are the weights (in 18") of these compared to the poxy standard 17" wheels?
I am a bit undecided wether to change at all, or go for one of the above. The thing is having had my 03 WRX since new, i need a little help convincing myself that the move to 18" wheels is worth it! lol. |
I`m not sure of the weights but I`ve just fitted the PFF7s to my 05 STI and they look great and toughen up the appearance of the car!
|
Unfortunately I can't help out on the weight question you have but I went for PFF7's on my old 52 WRX and have done the same on my 05 STi and in both cases improved the road holding no end :thumb:
|
I'd say PFF7's just because I really HATE OZ Super and Ultraleggeras with a passion:mad:
They are on everything chavtastic as well as Subaru's;) They'll probably be about the 20+kg mark with tyres(225/40/18) |
Believe it or not the standard newage wrx 17's are very light, if a little narrow.
As for weights between the OZ's and PFF7's, I recon they're quite similar..? In fact all three are a very similar weight, tyre weight being equal of course..;) An oem 17" STI wheel is very heavy compared any of these..! Reduced unsprung weigh, is vitally important to handling/response/braking. Chavtistic Jason, lol..;) |
I'd go for Speedline Turini's given the choise

Steve (no chavs here!) |
How much are the Speedlines then? If they are similar to PFF7 i would sooner buy the PFF7 myself. Plus that gives me another excuse to goto RCMS to pick em up/have em fitted. LOL.
Any good places to buy these from? Any good deals to be had? |
Got mine from Revolution Performance Motorstore think about £1300ish give or take with Goodyear GSD3 225/40/18 XL's.
They do original PFF7's as well as copies. Subaru New Wheels & Tyres version 2 :EROL Give them a bell and strike a deal, tell them I sent(they'll charge you double:D) |
The Rotas are pretty light weight and look good. I was going to go PFF7 replicas but got the Rota GRA's instead for a good price from Rare Rims
Very happy with them. |
Rota GRA's are a good alternative to genuine PFF7's IMO. As said they're a light wheel, which should the main criteria as far as I'm concerned.
Beware of 'other' PFF7 copies as they weigh a ton..! |
Rota's are ok but they aren't the strongest of wheels. Never seen one break but I've heard stories and after getting new tyres fitted the other day not surprised. The tech mentioned they are pretty bent. Said that I could probably run thru another set of rubber fine but should be thinking about replacing them after that. But the price is right on Rota's.
cheers garrett |
^^^^
How did he manage to balance them, being so bent. Have you had to have loads of lead on them..? |

every time !!! |
I weighed one of my PFF7 18" with Michelin PS2 tyre - 19.3kg
|
Thanks for that info scoobytyson, i wonder how that compares to my WRX wheels with tyres? Hmmm, now where are my scales, LOL.
|
iirc the 17" wrx wheel with a 215 45/17 RE050 weighed ~17.5kgs..?
My 18" super T's with 225 TR-1's weigh 18kgs..:D 'MaD' have you managed to sort your brakes out yet..? |
Hmm, not much to be had from swapping then is there? I thought there would be a decent weight difference. lol.
jasonius, ta for asking but no! Ha. I did phone Paul @ Zen who was very helpful, got me booked in, but in all honestly i did the dirty on him and cancelled near the time. Basically, work hours did me for that day and i could not give Paul enough time to do any decent 'looking' for me, so i would rather wait. My only other gripe was i will have to spend money to get them right, and i would rather wait till i need new discs for sure anyway, that way i do not have to pay out 'for the sake of it'. For now they will have to do. But yeah, Paul will get the job for sure, later. As for my car, it had its MOT yesterday and sailed though again :) So i am happy for that! Hows you and yours doing? |
