advise please
 

i have a 2001 bugeyed wrx. im on a fairly tight budget and want to now what people recomend for performance increases. my car already has the centre section cat removed and dump valve fitted. i was considering an induction kit next but not sure whether it would make any difference to the performance. if so which one is best for reasonable price. just sum advise would be really usefull from people in the know:thumb:

IMO an induction kit will decrease power unless you a good cold box and supply,

Your bst bet would be save up £400 and get it mapped at Teg Sport. Around 270-280hp should be in order :D

big money for me but thats a hell of a power gain!!:D

I dont know how your car is fixed for maintanance?

I good start is changing oil & filter, air filter, fuel filter and some decent spark plugs. Not sure if iridiums are rated on the Impreza tuning front but they were a must in the 3S-GTE engines.

Have you thought of a boost upgrade. You can buy a good MBC for around £40 and a boost gauge for £30. Somebody will tell you the safe higher boost limit to up it to and that will give it some more go.

MBC are good but need good maintanance by cleaning. When you change the oil (every 5000miles?) is a good time for remembering and timing. There tricky to set up but once sorted are as good as anything else apart from you haven't got incar adjustability.

well i have recentley changed the oil and filter. and its due its 50000 service and belt change shortly which is why im bin carefull how much i spend coz subaru have quoted me £400 ish for this doin:(

Ideally you want to fit a decat up-pipe (£135 new) and a sportscat downpipe (£290 new or £200 2nd hand) to take full advantage of the remap. You'll end up with a much more driveable car with lower spool.

Maybe save up the pennies till you can afford it all ?

Can I just hi-jack this for one post, does the uk bugeye have 3 cats fitted? One in the up-pipe (Pre-Turbo?), one in the downpipe & one after that?

Yes. Just a note on that, mine was mapped when new by the original owner with all three cats in place on V power by Power Engineering, and made 260 / 254. 40,000 miles later, with decat up pipe and removed resonator, so downpipe and centre cats still in place, made 255 / 251 on SUL (can't get V Power :( ) at Powerstation, so there doesn't appear to be much gain from swapping the up pipe IMHO.

So if I fit a turbo back system, will my car still pass it mot with the up-pipe cat still on or do they need at least 2?

Don't think so. Before I had mine, the previous owner fitted decat up pipe, downpipe and non resonated rear section, leaving just the centre cat in and it failed. Looking at the size of the up pipe cat I think you'd struggle.
