Microsoft Office CD Keys security question?
We have several machines all running Office 03. All the office CDs have been put in the same box so we dont' know which CD belongs to which machine.
We have recently had a laptop stolen and the replacement has arrived but the insurers haven't given us a new copy of office. Is it possible to use the copy from the stolen machine (considering we have bought the license in the first place) and how, if at all, can we work out which CD of office came with the laptop? Any help much appreciated. |
just put in the same code , it may say you need to activate and then fail if it does just phone the number
if any one ever checked you own enough licences |
as long as the CD's are the same type ie OEM, Volume or retail the licence keys should work on any of them, the key isnt tied to a particular CD just a type.

..........or you could use the opportunity to have a good old IT audit and run Belarc Advisor on each machine which will reveal the product key

As said above to do it legally you would need to use the stolen PC version of the serial. Technically its you that owns the licence not the PC so if someone else uses it thats them breaking the law.

Also, what version of Office came with the original laptop? If it was OEM rather than the fully packaged product you would be breaking the EULA if you were to install it on a different machine. An OEM licence lives and dies with a particular piece of hardware.
