just done oil, plugs and maf
 

hi all just changed plugs oil and cleaned maf as part of a small service and to try to stop the slight hesitency on my 98 terzo. after starting the car for the first time it seemed like it was hunting from cold which it never use to. i thought at first that it was because the battery had been out for a while so i carried on withthe warm up and test drive. i have found that the car seems to be pulling a little more than it was so pleased there but the slight hunting when cold is there now which it wasnt before and the issue with the dropping of revs after dipping the clutch and slight holding back on light throttle is still there which is why i attempted to clean the maf in the first place. i assume that it is the thin piece of wire which sits in the line of air flow.
looked at next cleaning the iscv out looks like the intercooler needs to come out to get to the bolts, please tell me if im wrong!! but dont think this would help the hesitation anyway. please could someone throw some advise my way for where to go next, cheers rich.

I'd probably replace the MAF or at least try a different one.

I know the 99 and 2000 cars would hunt on cold due to the Lambda signal on the cold start cycle but is fine once warm. Not sure about the 98.

worth cleaning the boost solenoid also maybe.

edit: dropping of revs suggests MAF on the way out to me. If the ECU has reset due to the battery being out this is more noticeable as the ECU is not compensating for the failing MAF.

I recently replaced the MAF and idle control valve. I still get a bit of hunting when cold but it's much better and power delivery is improved in the lower revs. I've not changed plugs however.

cheers for that quick reply mate think new maf is around £260 though for this model, big gamble if its not. dont know anyone with this model to borrow one for an hour epecially here in jersey. i also thought lamda only works once warmed up so maf more probable i think. anyone have a good spare:(

I have one in the shed somewhere, as far as i know it was good when it came off. the complete engine/loom/dash etc was swapped to 99 spec so different maf fitted....

if you still have it would you be interested in letting me try it and buying it if it sorts out the problem. if not how much to take a chance cheers rich.

Was the hesitancy occurring when you held the car at steady revs? My MY00 UK Turbo used to do this at around 75 in top. Using 98 RON sorted it out for me. It was a characteristic of the car...
