Possibly the best sounding car ever? (vid)

Ford Mustang with straight-through 'SLP Loud Mouth' 'zausts.. Jeebus.. Wait 'til halfway through when he blips the throttle quickly just once... I almost wet myself. I want one. :(

Not even nearly the best sounding car ever IMHO, just a loud, throaty V8.

I'd say the best sounding car I've ever heard was definitely the 1950s BRM V16 F1 car (1.5L supercharged). If you've never heard it, get to Goodwood one year when it's running; fantastic noise!

finalzero 30 April 2007 11:31 PM

Best sound I heard was a TVR, don't remember which make but it was travelling the opposite way to me in a long queue (single carriage way leading to the M1), guy decides he has had enough and starts signaling to let people know he is about to turn around.

I stopped to give him room to turn, the guy blips his throttle and spins the car round, never heard anything like it, low deep bassy V8 burble and pops.

Probein 01 May 2007 12:38 AM

Don't get me wrong, TVR's sound immense... But I'd say these mustangs are on par sound-wise. There are a few vids of them on youtube, they just sound so good!

Mclaren F1?

lightning101 01 May 2007 09:22 AM

I think you'll find a few car mags and programs have compared thousands of car sounds and the winner was a Ferrari 250 :)

Andy M3 01 May 2007 09:28 AM

You are all wrong, this is clearly the best, most unique sound to be produced ever! YouTube - Audi 80 Quattro Drift - General Lee

I also prefer the sound of a V8 in comparison to highly tuned 'super cars' like Ferrari's etc... They just sound so aggressive and untamed.

This is another *fantastic* example of a Ford Mustang with straight through exhausts...

YouTube - An extremly noisy Ford Mustang GT 2005

Watch it all the way through... The combination of sound and insanely aggressive styling possibly makes the Mustang one of my personal most desirable cars.

Also notice how it sets off car alarms on the drive by's? :D

Andy Burton's Ferrari engined Alfa Romeo took some beating when it was on full attack:eek::cool:

But, if you consider that no engine yet built gets even close to the noise a Merlin makes in full cry, this has to be a contender:thumb:

Alfa 155 V6 avec K+N, full beans 3rd gear 65mph (preferably tunnel included)
That is the best automotive noise, period.

No, sounds Ok but not the best.
Better by far
V12 Merlin - Ok not strictly a car engine but never the less pant-wettingly good

Enzo - form experience horsing it down a striaght on a track
Porsche Carrera GT - sam as above + standing there doing a comparison with a 430 Ferrari - the Porsche sounded sooo much better, like an F1 car on chat!

AllanB 02 May 2007 11:21 AM

That BMW sounds horrid like an electric food blender all high end metallic shrill noise.

TVRs, yep have to go a long way t beat the sounbd nf one of those, Ferarris don;t like the sound of them again too high pitched.

Give me a nice V8, flat four Alfa or Subaru or 3 pot any day. Still think the Charade GTti is one of the best sounding engines ever
