Broken down Golf GTi MkI 1.6 Question???
 

A mates brother has just phoned saying he's broken down on the motorway. He's looked in the engine bay and the entire distributor unit has come away and is hanging by the wires and ht leads only and has split into two parts. Details are vague at present but does anyone know what might have happened?

..he failed to get AA or RAC cover ??

but does sound like something has bounced off the motorway and whacked it..

Baddum tsch very good wwsd lol. He's currently waiting for the AA to arrive as we type.

A mate recently fixed a mark 1 gti with a 16 valve engine that had broken down.

It turned out that an engine mount had snapped and the distributor hit something (might have been a master cylinder) and put a hole in the cap. I wonder if something similar has happened.

Is there anything near the distributor on an 8 valve engine?
