before mapping, is it worth buying this....

hi these are the mods so far to my00 version 6 sti.

I am about to fit a aeromotive fuel reg, and want to know if it is worth spending out near £300 for a apexi avc-r to replace the apexi boost control kit before i have a map tweek?

for the amount of money (£300) would the gains be worth it over what i have got all ready?

Apexi power fc ecu
Apexi power fc commander
Apexi boost control kit (running 1.3 bar)
Apexi induction kit
Blitz nur spec R exhaust system
3” decat down pipe with heat wrap
Andy Forrest TD05 20G turbo
Secs 550cc injectors
Front mount intercooler
Fmic water spray
255 fuel pump
Magnacore HT leads
Knock link sensor

thanks
ian

best speaking to the mapper, I think the only advantage is that you would be able to have different boost levels and duties for different gears, may be wrong though

main advantages being you can run more boost in the mid-range and tail it off at the top.. too much boost at high rpm on standard internals is not ideal.

the per-gear duty adjustment allows you to run the same boost in all gears..etc

hi simon, how much difference do you think over my apexi boost contol kit i have at the mo? are we talking alot of boost here, or how much at a rough guess?

thanks

Reasonable difference yes, it's a lovely bit of kit.

Are those 550 injectors big enough for your 20G turbo? I have an Andy Forrest TD05/20G turbo, Apexi PFC/commander & AVC-R mapped by Andy.F and see over 70% duty on the 850 injectors I have. At 1.65-1.70 bar though. ( 420-430 ish BHP ?)

Your Apexi boost kit already has the 3.0 bar Apexi boost solenoid, that also comes with the AVC-R kit so you could sell one off perhaps??

The AVC-R allows you to get the best out of your engine / turbo set up, tailoring it for gears and revs... as JGM says, nice bit of kit.

Hehe, JGM loves the AVC-R ... but will tel you to "see your mapper!"

Hi Simon, how's it going?

Hi Neil,

I never said speak to your mapper.. lol

the 550s usually get to 100% at 1.4bar at the top but allow you to run more boost through the midrange than that.. but then on a non-built motor you wouldn't want to run more than 1.4bar at the top anyway.
I thought Ian had or was fitting a fuel pressure reg whcih would allow a little more head room and better atomisation but no mention of it in his post so perhaps I remember wrong. But agree the 550s will be getting to their max but a nice ceiling point to stop with standard internals. You really want to run the smallest injectors you can get away with, without them restricting you etc..

i have got a aeromotive fpr that im hoping to have a go at fitting in the next couple of weeks.

how much do you think i could sell my apexi boost control kit for? am still not 100% sure i can afford a apexi avcr, but from what has been said so far, it would be nice to have, and hopefully giving me some more power

I could probably do a part exchange on AVC-R.. :)
