Parents moved to wireless... cannot connect

Long story that I won't bore you with ...!

Now my parents have my old 3Com Office Connect router, but for years they've been using modem dial up.

I set up the router, and the USB dongle to connect to the router. Mum has removed the Modem dial setting in IE, so now the connection box is blank.

We've proved that the PC and ping the router OK, but when the IP of the router is entered in IE it says this page cannot be displayed.

As I'm not there it's a little difficult, but on my PC which is also wireless it has no connection setting in the dial up box.

What needs to be configured to send packets to the router ? The PC is connected to the 3com router when looking at the wireless status.

Cheers

"We've proved that the PC and ping the router OK, but when the IP of the router is entered in IE it says this page cannot be displayed."

This sould only be done if the router is acting as a proxy, which I doubt very much. Clear that field and do the following:

You need to enter the IP of the router into the "default gateway" section of the network properties for the usb adapter.

You might need to enter in the IP of the router into the DNS settings also.

If you need help finding these, let us know what OS you are using.

All sorted. Proxy causing issues. Shouldn't have been attempting to use one.
