Yeah but how many on here have £65k knocking around for a track car?
Dave

260bhp from a roadlegal n/a 2litre is pretty impressive - especially as it'll still have rocksolid Honda reliability

Dark Blue Mark 19 April 2007 08:40 PM

65k? Where did you get that from?

For me this looks like such a positive move from Honda - the Type R has recently become like the Golf GTi - a lukewarm hatch.

This changes things nicely, and the sequential is a very brave move!

As it stands the DC2 and DC5 are the only real Type R for me.

The last GTi was the lukewarm one, its just that nowadays 200 bhp doesnt sound like much, seeing as there are 260 bhp models like the Mazda MPS out there.

Its not so much the BHP that kills the GTi / Type R brand for me, its all the weight adding padding, and ****e suspension - not what they should be!

If that new Type R is 65k then its really going to kill it :(

You could get a used GT3 for that money, or a nearly new NSX with a supercharger conversion and sequential shifter!

Mark do you not consider the EK9 civic type r a "proper type r"!

Banny

Dark Blue Mark 19 April 2007 09:43 PM

Yup I do Banny, good point, just not the UK newer one!

Oi ;)

I chose a MKV Golf GTI precisely because it is no longer a lukewarm, wobbly piece of ****e.

Agree with the other poster about weight though - the Golf weighs twice what my 205 does!

billythekid 21 April 2007 07:22 PM

Its not going to be cheap, the mods they have done are going to have cost a min of 20k, add the base price of 20k and you have 40k... and I dont know what kind of production line intervention they have done etc as that would add to the cost.

TBH if I had that kind of money for a track car and I wanted FWD hatch, I would prob go for an ex-btcc car.

Dark Blue Mark 21 April 2007 10:16 PM

Moose, I meant the last gen to be fair - I should have clarified :D

The new one looks to be very good, esp after i saw the Top Gear feature on their DSG box. I had a 1.8T which was a bag of **** - I sold it within 6 weeks :)

what would scooby do 21 April 2007 10:33 PM

rubbish value for money - that's all folks...

super6four 21 April 2007 10:53 PM

Lol, that car is the new JAS motorsports of Italy's developement rally/track car. Never going to be a production car. Autoexpress chatting out of thier behind again. 260 bhp from a few ECU tweeks, gimme a break. There is a LOT of engine work gone into that car.

Still liking what they have done to the rear end.

Looks like they dealt with the torque steer. Maybe a sign of things to come for the Civic?
