Wheel Alignment
 

Hi,

I have an MY05 UK STI.

At approx 20,000 miles I replaced the RE070's with pilot sport 2's.

The RE070's were very evenly worn, but the new tyres are wearing heavily on the outside edge.
They are not the extra load version, so is this maybe the problem?

I'm going to get the alignment checked today.
What options do I have if its OK?
Do I just bite the bullet and replace the 2 fronts, or can I possibly complain to Michelin and maybe they'll replace them?
Can tyres be faulty?
Are my front 2 likely to be faulty?

Given that the previous RE070's wore evenly would sort of suggest that the alignment is alright.

Low tyre pressure would cause this.

Strictly speaking a low tyre pressure would wear both inside and outside edges unless it was combined with a high proportion of heavy cornering when the tyre would tend to tuck under more. If this is the case then a higher pressure would help.

Some negative camber would also help.

OK, understand that.

But the pressure is 34psi all round.

The fitting company told me to run 34psi too.

Anyone else running with pilot sport 2's?
What pressure are you running with?

I have been running PS2 with 35 PSI at the front and 32 PSI at the rear. I also have 1 degree of negative camber at the front and have experienced very even tyre wear over the last 5,000 miles.

IMHO having high pressures at the rear may be inducing more understeer, hence the shoulders of the front tyres are wearing quicker.

I've been running PS 2's with 34 psi all round for about a year, but with very even tyre wear. Although I did get laser alignment when all the whiteline bits werre fitted, which probably helps.

I'm on 39F/35R 18" F1s with 1.25 deg neg camber (Scoobyclinic). Wear lovely and even until I had track day tuition on a clockwise track at Elvington. Now NSF outside shoulder looks sad on only 20 miles of ragging. At least I know why.
