My 5th Impreza...

...and probably my last, for a decent while anyway!! :lol1:

Starting to grow up, get bored of shelling out sh!tload of money on older cars and enjoy the feeling that I dont actually have to spend any money on a car aside from running costs and consumable items (tyres, brakes etc)....... hence why I've gone for it and got myself a brand new car. That, and I got such a bloody good deal on it that it'd have been idiotic to have bought an older shape NewAge STi instead of it. :)

I've still got the Celica at the moment, but to be honest, I'm enjoying the STi that much that I'm pretty sure I'm going to be shifting that onwards as its a bit of a waste of potential/money to have it sitting there doing nothing. Plus, if I break that, its my own money I'm shelling out to fix it, unlike the STi which is all warranty'd up!! :D

Here are a few pics I took today (inc the one Col took of me spectating on Sunday @ Knockie):

Still a big fan of the dials, hence the wee stages of light-up I thought I'd share with you all... haha!! :D

Got so much kit on it too, its like a luxury machine compared to a Classic Impreza.. Leather, Climate, Bluetooth, Sat Nav, Xenons, DCCD, etc etc.

Running it in isn't easy, picked it up in Falkirk on Saturday afternoon with under 20 miles on the clock and its about 420 just now... gotta hit the magical 1000 miles before I can get an oil change and check over, then I'm able to start giving it proper yee-haa, but the 2.5 feels like its got bags of torque to cart you along with and the DCCD is going to be fun to learn too. :thumb:

Grant

JTaylor 17 April 2007 08:07 AM

Very nice, Grant. (I'm about to go all sensible, too ;)).

GrantyBoy 17 April 2007 11:21 AM

good to see you back in a Subaru Grant

RS Grant 17 April 2007 12:19 PM

Thanks guys.

When you say 'sensible' what are you meaning JT?! :D

Hi Grant, feels good to be back in a Subaru. I had a MY99 Wagon that I was planning to do a few wee things to, but when the deals on the Spec-D were put up on the Owners Club it was too tempting and too much of a good deal to say no to. :)

How are you?? Still got the Type-R??

Cheers,
Grant

Silver Scooby Sport 17 April 2007 01:54 PM

Grant !! :lol1:

Calm down a bit now we can't keep up with ya !! :D

Looking great there bud... I must admit the hawkeye has grown on me a lot I like the front very much, the jury is still out on the rear lights with me that's my only comment. What's the two small switches ?? either side of the hazard lights ? and those start up dials look fantastic
So are you the " my friend has bought a spec d what back box do you recommend he puts on it " then ;) The colour is brilliant as well. Are you making the trip down for the SSO ?

Si :thumb:

RS Grant 17 April 2007 02:00 PM

Hahaha, I like you're style of detective work mate... but me and a friend have bought Spec-D Imprezas, he's just waiting to take delivery of his!! :)

The wee things to the sides of the parking light switch are microphones for the Bluetooth Hands Free/Sat Nav I think.. although I'm not 100% sure on that.

I am going to slow down mate, this is a long term project, couple of small styling touches... then enjoy the standard power (once its run-in) and eventually a couple of wee performance mods too. :)

When/Where is the SSO??

Cheers,
Grant

Silver Scooby Sport 17 April 2007 02:07 PM

All that and I never had my dearstalker on once :D

Maybe a good initial mod would be rear Drops and ARB to tighten the cornering up a touch.... I like spending other peoples money :lol1:

How can you have missed that banner ^^^^^^^ up there ;)

RS Grant 17 April 2007 02:19 PM

Haha, ahhhhhh.... SSO.... ScoobyShootOut!! :lol1:;)

I'm pretty sure the STi comes with uprated Droplinks as standard mate, but an adjustable 22mm Whiteline ARB is definitely on my 'short-ish' list of planned mods.

I went out to a local specialist yesterday to buy a Green Panel filter to get a wee bit more induction noise. Went well, I came out with the Panel Filter I went in for, but, I also left with a H&S 4.5" Angled Backbox and Straight Through Centre...... all fitted. Was toooo quiet as standard!! :lol1:

GrantyBoy 17 April 2007 02:33 PM

some things never change Grant. had it 5 mins and already mod'ing it!

Yeah I still have the Type R. Its been off the road since Autum last year as I haven't had much chance to enjoy it, so I SORN'd it. Try'd half assed to sell it a few months back but I never really pushed it to get her sold.
But its definitely going this summer as I'm planning on down gradeing to one do all car. Probably going to sell her off cheap for a fast sale.

Nice Scooby Wagon or an older Audi RS4 Avant should be on the cars. Need the extra space for the mountin bikes, kite surfing gear and snowboarding stuff.

COLZO 17 April 2007 11:26 PM

Nice one Grant. Did you get my PM about the Prodrive flaps?

RS Grant 18 April 2007 01:51 PM

I sure did Colzo, hope it makes sense why I was asking now.. despite having a Classic at the time I sent it. ;):D

Grant, sounds good, I was considering an RS4 instead of the Spec-D but I couldnt find one with reasonable miles and warranty within my budget.. and I dont think its the kind of car you can buy on a budget, could cost a LOT of money in the long run, replacement Turbos cost in the region of £4500 to replace.

Grant

RUDDY 18 April 2007 01:59 PM

that looks really nice in that colour mate!
so what deal did you get then??

rb5 286 18 April 2007 02:51 PM

Hi Grant

how r u finding the Scoob?

I've got a STI in the same colour, the dials look the nutz and the defi amber guages i fitted really look well

one of the RB320 members took this wicked picture

https://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f...B320/dials.jpg

RS Grant 18 April 2007 03:35 PM

Ruddy, I got a great deal.... no longer available though, it was a March-only deal and I'm not actually too sure if it was only maybe Scotland-only?!

RB5, I'm really enjoying the new STi. Its a completely different package to the Classics I've had before, but thats a good thing, its a more grown up performance package and feels a bit more substantial too. Cant wait to get it all run in and find out how quick it is further up the rev range. That pic you posted is the exact effect that I wanted, but had no idea how to achieve when I took my picture. :)

Cheers,
Grant

EVOLUTION 19 April 2007 10:54 AM

i was up the dealer a couple of weeks ago, i was seriously considering chopping in my MY05 WRX PPP for that gorgeous white wagon they have up there

but couldnt get rid of mine in time

EVOLUTION 19 April 2007 10:54 AM

sorry, really nice motor as well mate, theres one for sale down here at GMD too

Ray_li 19 April 2007 11:03 AM

where did you buy it from?

I cant tell the diff between a WRX and spec D

RS Grant 19 April 2007 04:05 PM

Bought the car from Ian Grieve in Falkirk... It is difficult to tell the difference externally between a Spec-D and a WRX. Main differences are the STi Backbox, 17" (Silver) STi Wheels, Rear Diffuser (think its STi only) and the Brembo Brakes front and rear, thats really it visually I think.. and even then, its still very 'discreet' differences. ;):)

Thanks Evo, they've got a few nice used cars... including my old 31k mile MY99 UK Wagon in White, which isn't on the Subaru Site yet.

Cheers,
Grant
