(A quite bad) corrosion problem...

I was cleaning the car over the weekend and pulled out a piece of corroded metal from out of the front bumper and didnt think much else about it. Later on I decided to remove the front grille (MY00) to get a particularly stubborn bit of polish and was shocked to see the ammount of corrosion on a metal bar behind the front bumper.

The bar runs from one headlamp to the other and is what the front bumper is fixed to, although parts of it were sagging where peices have fell off, there is what I think is a radiator coolant pipe attached to it, which is basically what is stopping the rest of it from falling off.

Can I remove the rest of it?

Can I get a replacement?

And more importantly - what the hell caused it?

Its the bumper support m8,around £35 from your dealer.

Yeah I just fitted a FMIC and my bumper bar was in shocking condition. One end was literally falling off from rust.

If / when you decide to get a replacement you might want to consider getting it powder coated before you fit it, the black paint that's on them as standard is very thin, hence why they rot away.
