S2000 - Forums? Insurance? etc

Hey all,

Having just sold my scoob, thinking of a move to an S2k.

Obviously as with any car purchase i've made in the past, i've found the more research i've done on the car & the more i know, the better its turned out.

therefore, does anyone know of any good forums etc for them.

Also if anyone owns one presently or has done, any advice to give?

Cheers all

Brent

UK section of S2000 Forum Here

Also, search S2000 on this board as there have been plenty of threads with significant input from myself, Dark Blue Mark, Sidhead, Dracoro, etc (all owners/ex owners).

Insurance is pretty pricey - a little more than my import sti!

SAXO BOY,

cheers for the link, i'll check it out. i've done a search on here & read most of them but some of them are a little old.

do you know who are good for insurance?

How long's a piece of string?? :D

Ok we all know its twice the distance from the centre to each end...

But - just shop around.

Try Confused.com for a general guide.

I think an S2000 is a bit like Marmite! :D

Do your research carefully, because you will either be

:luvlove: or

although before you get to :luvlove: you might get a bit of  :thumb: on full chat through a tunnel :lol1:

cheers for the posts fella's, all useful stuff.

i'll give that link a read now.

what would 12K get you in S2000 terms?

plus does anyone know where to get the hardtops from? obviously cheaper the better.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought. "How long until Saxo Boy posts?" Took him 13 minutes. Slowing down chap.

RE hardtops - if its not a GT model you will have to buy and fit a fititng kit, which can be imported form the US for about £300. Hardtops sell at around £400-£800.

£12k is going to be a MY00 with 40k miles I think. Might be tricky finding a good one.

TaffyB 17 April 2007 12:53 PM

ok so i'll stick the idea of a hardtop on the back burner for now then.

Well with my £12k, i've had a quick look on pistonheads & autotrader etc, seem to get them for about that mileage & year, but i have seen a few with FHSH, which i've been told is a must.

plus unfortunately due to my age (24) tesco's wont insure me, so i'll be waiting until end of sept to get it. Thats crap cos i'll miss the summer, but maybe good cos prices may come down a bit.

Whats the residuals & overall running costs like on them? Average MPG, etc

I must have been in the John or something? :D

IMHO don't bother with the hard top - I was determined to get an HT when I got my S2000 but the right one came up at the right price without one so I bought it. Within a few days of owning it I realised that I'd never want the hard top - the roof is so fast at going up and down that you get into a habit of taking every and any opportunity to enjoy that and some of my best drives were with a crisp winter wind in my face or out in the snow. I also find the soft-top perfectly refined.

The ONLY time when I wanted a hard top was sitting on the line at crail as I figured the extra 20kg would be more than offset by the extra slippy surface at high speed. Probably missed out on 0.5mph on my trap with just the soft-top :D

TaffyB 17 April 2007 04:18 PM

ok fair one, even though i cant imagine ever sitting on the line at crail, i'll giv it a miss for the time being.

just had a look on autotrader & there seems to be quite a few for sale in my price range.

a company called "S2000-4U.co.uk" are advertising a lot on there, any heard or dealt with them?

plus whats the residuals like on them?

Mixed opinion on S2ki but there is a number of respected members that have reported positive experience. I guess like everything, there will be good and bad experiences. Definately not one of those, 'god don't go there cases'
