My sprog has just started riding bikes properly (she's only 7) and today she wanted to go into the local village. Off we went the mile or so into the village and on down to our Dojo where I wanted to see someone, so about 2 miles. I offered her the option of going back the same way or "the long way" which meant 4 miles more & she chose it. This meant getting onto a B road which for the bit we were travelling is plenty wide with myself riding "wing" on the outside. For 100m there was a section of roadworks controlled by a trafficlight. As we came up, they changed in our favour and with no cars behind, we set off. I asked Ez to go fast. 2/3 of the way along and I head a car come up behind us. The road was too narrow to get past so they had to wait a short while.

As soon as we got to the end, we moved back to the left to let the car(s) overtake. First one goes past wide but the 2nd one deliberately went as close to me as it could and although I was behind and out a bit from Ez, went far too close to her too :mad: I shook my fist and idiot shook one back, so he knew he was being an ar$e :mad:

He was driving an American late model left hooker heading towards one of the local bases, so chances are good he was a septic :mad:

He was slowed down by what, 20 seconds? That is no need to try to intimidate and in fact scare my girl. Me? I don't give a f and I would have ripped his head off if he had stopped, but Ez could've been frightened and wobbled in towards him or fallen off or anything. Fortunately she kept her composure.

So if I happen to see this particular car again (and it is not a common one, in black with tints and I have a part reg) then he may be in for a surprise.

7 and riding a bike on a road? Stick to bridal tracks....

Should be reasonably easy to report him to base commander then, and or local police. Cause a little bit of a PR s*it storm and the guy may no longer do that :)

Yup, some drivers can be real twats when they see a cyclist !!

You do seem to find that 1% of drivers are retards when it comes to push irons... I cycle appx 1500 miles a year and just get the odd "tough guy" who never seem prepared to stop and discuss their poor driving when invited :lol1:

The "I pay roadtax so cyclists are in the wrong" line always makes me laugh as if cyclists are exempt from paying road tax on the cars they own :confused:

To say someone was being stupid on the road is fair enough but to invoke this towards a nation or race is just in my view to appeal to the masses for their sympathy (in the old days if you didnt like someone you would call them a witch so that you could gather the whole village on your side and have a good torture and murder session):cuckoo:

You do realise that its illegal to 2 bikes beside one another on the road. Although theres no need for the guy to behave like that.

Actually, the Highway Code says this, and it is under the heading of "you should" i.e. it is merely advisory, not enshrined in the Road Traffic Acts and thus law:

You should:
not ride more than two abreast
ride in single file on narrow or busy roads

Note "more than".

And two further comments - I too am a cyclist, and a small minority of motorists drive stupidly towards cyclists. Too late to say sorry when you've hit a cyclist at speed and they are dead. Sometimes there is a case for riding two abreast to stop a motorist forcing their way through the gap between them, you, and a car coming in the opposite direction.

Secondly, I live less than a mile from Puff, and it is a fact that in the locality of the bases (Lakenheath and Mildenhall) the accident rate is much higher than elsewhere, and the majority of accidents local to the bases involve US servicemen. Not a racist comment, just a fact :)

while on the subject of PCness...the 'black music' awards always give me a chuckle...can you imagine the 'white music' awards :cuckoo:

and btw the term/slang Yank is from the derivation of Yankee as in from the civil war days is that 'racist'? the term isnt seen as objectionable by many Americans, I don't see too many White English people getting upset when we are called Limies by the Australians...but then of course we are always seen as racists, when its the other way round its acceptable?? Am I to be upset when called white? the whole PC debate is racist in itself.
