twichy newage???

Just bought an 03 STI PPP today.

Took the car for a test drive and everything was fine, i didn't give it loads of throttle as i wasn't familiar with the car or its power delivery.

On the way home my confidence was building and i was getting used to the way the car handled and performed, the first time i really opened it up i got a shock, ohh thats a bit quick... clam down a bit..

after a while i noticed the same thing happening over and over, It was something that had been happening since i got in the car.

I accelarate hard in 3rd and swap through the gears giving it all in each gear. Everytime i back of the throtle the car seems to take a nervious twitch on the front end. Its not serious but slight correction of the steering wheel is needed to keep the car feeling planted.

Is there an engine mout or gearbox mount fcuked? Or am i being silly and its just the bridgestone potenzas that are griping the road and launching me forward.?

help.!

Was it dry (guess so) ? Are all the tyres of the same type ?

may be worth getting the alignment checked

Sounds like a worn front n/s track rod end balljoint.

Jack up a front wheel and twist it from side to side whilst looking at the ball joint. Any wear will be fairly obvious.

Could be abit of torque steer as the front diff winds up and lets of, I get loads of it in mine on uneven roads when gunning it.

Thats either reassuring or we both have something wrong with our cars!

I've been speaking to a few mates and they have all suggested i change the tyres to something else when the time comes.

I'm going to get tracking checked today as well just to be sure.

For torque steer read Ford Escort RS turbo with knocking 200bhp! I remember driving my sons RS in the wet some years ago!

I would only consider moving away from the RE070 Potenza (if thats the version you have) if you wish to sacrifice performance for ride quality... because you will not find a better tyre for the summer months. The reason they twitch is because they have such hard sidewalls and follow the contours in the road more as a result... but when you get to a corner this same stiffness can benefit your handling massively over a softer sidewall tyre.

You problem isnt something im suffering from in MY05 STi... so i would be lead to believe that it may be something else.
