Lambda sensor

Well my lambda sensor has packed up, what is the cheapest place to get one?
I am running a power fc, are there any issues running without the lambda sensor working?

not sure on the power FC

but i ran mine for a few weeks with no lambda connected (oem ecu)
i fitted a few cheap ones and they all failed

currently useing a "bosch LS02" universal
approx £43 deliverd from "just lambdas" it has only been in a few weeks, so i am not sure how long it will last?

Keen price. Did you have to crimp connectors on to the wires?
If the ECU runs closed loop lambda and I think it does up to 4k rpm, light load, then it can only run map settings if the lambda is U/S. This may effect economy a little but if the car map is close anyway I doubt it will make a lot of difference.

Thanks Harvey

Beware ! you may be overfuelling by as much as 25%. If the ECU sees 0 volts from the Lambda sensor during closed loop operation it will try to achieve stoich by adding fuel, it can add up to 25% extra to achieve this. Thats enough to give worries regarding bore wash, not to mention the shocking fuel economy you will achieve.
I'd get one in there as soon as possible.

Mine cost around £35 from a site I just cant remember.

My Lambda failed and it over fuled enough to make it fail the MOT. I was advised to turn off the sensor via the commander. That worked until I got a new one.

Does this sound about right Andy?

Andy.F 15 April 2007 10:03 PM

If you have a commander handset then you car turn it off until you get a new one.

Here's a deal ! £21.60+vat

3rd item down.

You will need to fit your old connector as this is a universal 3 wire type.

no it comes with a cool little sealed box that the connectors screw into, this then all clips together and hides and seals all joined wires

the connectors are a little like "screw in" style units

no crimps or heatshrink fitted or needed, it really is a bit better IMO to spend a little more and go for a "better make" so to speak, although an OEM for £65 is a cracking deal!!!! i only really checked a few places and i think GGR wanted about £170 for one (yes we know they are a bit pricey but its still a good indication of the price needed half the time)

is there any way of checking the lamba sensor? because mycar misses realy bad untill its warmed up. it seems like a lamba problem but i don,t want to buy one just to find out it,s something else. thanks

Hi sti.dean, from what your saying this sounds exactly the same as what happened to my MY99. Ran totally cr*p for about 5mins only to revert back to normal when warm. I paid for a diagnostic check and it turn up the lamba sensor. I took no chances with a universal part, I was told they are rubbish! I bought one from Subaru and had it fitted within 30mins, problem solved.

how much did you pay?

banny sti 04 September 2007 07:49 AM

I have the lambda sensor in the link fitted for 5 months now and it is spot on. For the price you cannot go wrong, all you needs is the plug off your old lambda sensor and the job's a good un!

I paid £130 for it, a lot of money granted, but knowing what it drove like when it was not working this was a small price to pay!! The company that did the diagnostic check, IBMAutomotive, informed me of repeat problems with universal sensors, they had no interest in whether I bought it from Subaru or anywhere else. Just that they have had universal ones fail within a few months, only for there customers to then buy from a main dealer. I think if you can afford it then it's worth it if not try a universal and see how it goes..

chocolate_o_brian 04 September 2007 06:10 PM

rang up subaru earlier... £118+vat supplied not fitted

rang up jase @ scoobybits afterwards £118+vat supplied and il make him fit it:lol1: :lol1:

After buying an Innovate LC-1 wideband controller and sensor that can be used for BOTH narrowband (for the ecu) and wideband (for either a gauge or datalogging) at £140, I wont be using anything else. The OE sensor is now in the bin.
