Love them... A great looking car and super shiney too :thumb:

skoobidude 11 April 2007 08:06 PM

I've got one too. Picked it up in January, just not had the chance to photograph it clean on a sunny day..
Mine is same spec but kuro. Great cars. Unfortunately I have a crap route through town to work. I forget what it's like sometimes until I go down a fast windy road on a weekend. ;)

Phil,

Your car looks familiar, I've seen it on 350Zuk.com where I also post:D. I had a brand new Kuro black Zed in 2004 and am looking for my second one now when I sell my STI PPP. These are fantastic cars, I love em!!

What are these like on juice guys?

Thinking of changing the Scoob for one but don't want another sub 18MPG motor. Don't end up taking it anywhere and use the Clio 182 for everything!

DJ Dunk 12 April 2007 12:06 PM

I got about 250 miles from £55 of fuel last time :D

MadGrip 12 April 2007 12:19 PM

mines showing 19.6 mpg but thats mainly round town & enthusiastic driving. I'm taking a long trip to surrey for the weekend, so I'll reset the computer and let you know how it does on long journeys

DJ Dunk 12 April 2007 12:59 PM

Its certainly better on longer journeys. I went from Kent to Cardiff and back on a tank (JDM, which is smaller than UK).

:eek2:  I get that out of the Impreza!!!:brickwall

skoobidude 12 April 2007 01:34 PM

Mine averages 22-24mpg per tank. A lot of that is town driving - to and from work etc.
Otherwise in 6th at around 80mph you can get up to 30 if you're lucky.
Better mpg than any of my scoobs plus servicing should be cheaper.

Yeah, thats what I was getting out of my Zed a few years ago. I'd set the cruise control at 80-85 mph on the motorway and I was getting 30+mpg. Not to bad at all.

StudentScooby 12 April 2007 06:00 PM

How would one compare to a 280bhp classic performance wise?

wilfthree 12 April 2007 06:37 PM

dont tell me.... couldnt tell which way it went in the twisties:D

Mr Leigh 12 April 2007 06:37 PM

I get around 24mpg average. Tend to get about 320miles from a tank. Can see 29-30 mpg on the motorway if you stick at 70mph.

Performance wise, In terms of out right pace. Against a classic with 280bbp I think you would be at a disadvantage in the 350Z due to the lightweight of the Classic. Against a new shape Subaru with 280bhp, once rolling the 350Z is as fast or faster. Not that you could tell without data loggers. I did 13.8 1/4 mile in the Z on my first and only run for a reference to pace.

Its all abit subjective anyway. I have done numerous RoadTrips with all sorts of cars, and unless you own a 911 Turbo or TVR Tuscan its difficult to notice the performance advantage.

For instance - A guy at the gym has a 911 Carerra 4S. From a roundabout and along a half mile duel carriage way he can pull about 3 cars distance on the Z.

Same road, 911 Turbo just yomped off - very nice. Makes me want one, but I'd still have a GT3 :)

I'm just looking for some 19 inch Nismos for the Z at the moment. I had a classic prodrive impreza and loved it. This is the first car since that I have liked as much. I went to Roger Clarks and was looking at Scoobs again until I seen the new photos :(

Buy a 350Z :) -

Edited to add a silly but true Twisty stuff comment - Across a twisty A or B road the Subaru is faster, the Z skips a bit on bumps. But at what point does it become faster! The point at which you are driving like a **** and need to pinch yourself. I have driven both like a ****. I would say to anyone who could keep with me in a Subaru on a public road, Mate you are as bigger **** as me. Which car is faster in the twisties - only way to find out is to close the road, and with the same driver - it would be the Subaru.

mg driver 12 April 2007 07:57 PM

is the jdm 300ps same as the newer uk models, and is it true its a waste of time modding with exhausts and air filters etc as the ecu cancels out the gain,i read that somewhere and thought it a bit odd.

p.s i know someone who went from an evo 5 to a 350Z and he reckoned the Z was faster,i find that hard to believe but thats what he said, especially as then the 350 Z was 276 ps and not 300.

CRAIGFIN 12 April 2007 08:33 PM

I do agree with Mr Leigh's comments that when the Zed is rolling and it has some inertia behind it, it is very fast indeed. I think the 0-60 time looking at various sources online ranges from 5.5s to 5.9s. I have no quarms about selling my STI PPP to get another Zed as it is definitely a better, more involving drivers car I feel.

wilfthree 13 April 2007 08:13 AM

Anyone got any pics of Zs with styling kits of different alloys on that they would like to post or could point me to on weblink? I recall seeing one or two cars with some nice split rim affairs on. Not that keen on standard Nissan offerings but am getting more and more interested in the Z.

Mr Leigh 13 April 2007 01:50 PM

Log In Have a look here for more info. Or come to one of the meets.

I had a Nismo exhaust fitted to my Z. It sounds faster but I dont think it made any real difference. It does get great response from those that hear it. Some nice pops when its really hot.

I think a good suspension setup is the best mod for the 350Z. It the only area that I'm not 100% happy with. But again, you have to be driving hard to upset it.

The Brembo brakes are already very good, some DS2500 pads will sort them for track work.

I got back from Surrey yesterday. and after 450sh miles which includes the 420 motorway miles, plus some town driving , I've managed to get 29.8 mpg at an average speed of about 45 - 50 mph, so much better than I expected

Fabioso 16 April 2007 07:09 PM

So could I be so bold as to summarise as thus

then compared to a classic :-
  • It isn't faster
  • It is a more involving drive
  • Fuel economy slightly better (on a run but about town about the same)
  • You no longer get put in the same chavtastic camp as every wanna be Waynester with 8k to spend (3k of that goes on insurance....)
  • Some neighbours will envy you
:)

mg driver 16 April 2007 09:58 PM

i would say its faster than a classic uk turbo 2000 no problem at all.

farmerwrx 16 April 2007 10:23 PM

i could comment owning these but i'll hang on a bit

Mr Leigh 16 April 2007 10:45 PM

Its faster than my almost standard MY99 classic was in a straight line, but not as fast as a Classic with 280bhp. The Z is almost 300kg heavier. Although my qtr mile times for both were the same, the terminal speed of the Z is higher.

I love it though, it just looks gorgeous.

When I drove to surrey last weekend I only saw another 2 350z's on the entire journey there & back, so you get exclusivity aswell, & I agree, the lines of the car are absolutely gorgeous. No big scoops, no exaggerated intakes, no over the top spoiler, its just a beautiful looking car. oh and no back ache after nearly 450 miles

Its not always about 0 - 60 times :D
