what size tube do i need for a roll cage?

i need to fabricate a roll cage for my project car and ive found a guy that sells all different size tubing on ebay but i just need to know what size is suitable, i dont want nothing to heavy duty and i just want to use mild steel i think.

Even if you are only intending to use the car on track days do the job properly, don't use standard mild steel circular hollow section, at the very minimum you should be using seamless pipe, preferably Cold Drawn.

From memory the minimum diameter is in the region of 45mm, I can't remember wall thicknesses, but 2.5mm rings a bell:wonder: The MSA blue book will tell you better:thumb:
