My Pug 306 S16
Damn ive only owned this car for about 18 months, the engine has had some work, new head gasket, new nissen alloy rad, cleaned the interior out now so it looks good :) and she should be back on the road by summer, though there are a couple of small rust patches that need sorting out (ive a mate who can do that for me though :))
Cost me 410 quid off ebay, the rad gave up the ghost and caused the engine to overheat, hence the head gasket failure :( runs like a dream now :D but needs a little bit of work (brakes need stripping/replacing, exhaust is dead, wheels are corroded to hell and im not sure how good the bushes are just yet) but its all work in hand :) Current mileage is 72.5k ;) Some pics. http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0532.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0531.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0529.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0528.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0523.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0524.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0525.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0530.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0533.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/DCP_0534.jpg Tony:) |
nice looking car ;)
Wifey's GTi6 will be up and running again soon - reverse gear selector cable fubar'd :D Took the opportunity to valet and wax it, so it will look and go fabbo :) What are your plans - daily runner or track queen? DAn :) |
Oh dunno yet, they are fun on the track but more of a weekend toy for now, track later ;)
Tony:) |
Good work Tony. I had the phase 1 GTi-6, cracking motor! :)
|
Thinking of doing the same - turning my GTi6 into a track car, and getting a Phase 2 for the wife :)
Woo hoo :) Dan |
I must say, its a nice-looning car!Hmm, go with the 106 GTI, I would.

What do the Rallyes go like? handling etc.
have to sell the Scoob but i'm not ready for a 1.0 car just yet:cry: |
They handle like they are on rails ;) good all round fun :D great engine note on them, nice 6 speed box and the 2 pot brakes are pretty damn good!
Tony:D |
Bloody hell that was quick:thumb:
i know wont be as quick as my Scooby but i need something that can go around corner. |
Just a couple of things to watch on em, depends on miles also but the cambelts are prone to fail if they aint been changed by 30-36k miles, other 306's have a 72k mile change, rear beams on high mileage cars wear, they then catch on the rear arches, shouldnt be too bad on a car with low miles (shouldnt tell), but there is a red one for sale on the autotrader with 65k on the clock (just under 3k) but doesnt say if it has service history or not :( (trade)
Oh and they came in 3 colours, red, black and white ;) Tony |
Rallyes go like the last shape civic type r. And the brakes are fooking awesome, same as my old "6" - when I chopped that in for my old MY99 UK turbo I wondered where the fook its brakes were compared to the pug!
|
just had a look they seem a performance bargain
straightline performance - what do they go like??? i'm used to the mid range wallop of an Impreza btw |
Peugeot quoted 8.5secs on the GTi-6, slightly less on the rallye, the "real figures were more like 7.2 on the GTi and 6.9 on the rallye, about 19 secs to 100 and very torquy for a NA engine :)
One gave my PPP'd classic a good run for its money, it wasnt as quick but it still didnt get out of my rear view mirror as quickly as id have liked it to ;) Tony:) |
i've been sold:D
|
Thanks chaps you've both been extremely helpful
much appreciated cheers:thumb: |

Chief, Just do a search in autotrader thoughout the country, low mileage/fsh ones are your best bet, though they may come with a higher price tag to boot :( Have a few hundred quid left over, always worth doing a couple of minor bits to these cars, they run quite warm (90+ on the temp gauge) so dont be alarmed, but the radiators do have a tendancy to rot from the inside (an uprated all alloy nissenone will cost you about 90-100 quid from Untitled Document who are based in burnley i think). Most other parts are cheap, standard brake components are excellent considering, upgraded ones will stop you even better ;) but you wont regret buying one, just be fussy ;) Tony:) |
Chief,
YHPM! Tony:D |
i had a lovely red rallye and phase 1 gti-6 rallye was spot on,chek out pistonheads for rallyes-few electrics etc so less to go wrong

also check out 306gti6.com - some good examples in the classifieds too :)
Dan (my other car's a GTi6 - phase 1) :D |
