Motorway speed camera van

On the motorway, on a bridge, white van, you know the type, with the side window down and the old laser gun pointing down the motorway.
Anyways, what are these laser speed traps normally set to?
As in, what speed do you have to be doing to be classed as speeding on this kinda laser gun?
My good old Road Angel lit up and screamed like a banshee! LOL.
Its the first time i have actually had the Road Angel go off for a laser gun, so it does actually work then! :D

Except that by the time it went off you had been spotted and measured already so if you were speeding far too late to slow down. So what's the benefit in it screaming and flashing? Horses, doors, bolted etc.

To be helpful against these laser guns you need something that fights back, oh and opens garage doors too of course.

I think the speed at which they prosecute varies from one scamera parthnership to another. ACPO guidelines are +10% + 2mph so 79mph on the motorway. But gloucestershire certainly set theirs lower as a mate got done on a dual carriageway at 76mph.

As it being a Motorway,my guess would be 70-77mph with the 10% included.

Minitrue 07 April 2007 07:46 PM

I read recently that the ACPO had helpfully withdrawn their guidelines (allowing Scamera Partnerships to prosecute for +1mph without facing bad publicity). Its all starting to run quite smoothly now isnt it, eh?

Dont know if this helps but I got £60 and 3 points for doing 96mph on the M6 in 2002 (11am with not another car in sight too!)

Insurance wise I finally shake the points next year i think :luxhello:

LOL. Yeah, but that would'nt make them much money compared to the speeders they must catch!

As for the other comments, i am under no illusions that by the time the Road Angel lights up, you are already caught. I have posted that on here myself many times on other threads.
My actual point was that i have past many many laser gun vans/police and have never even had the Road Angel light up at all. So that means it either does not work, or obviously i have not even been targeted.
So for it to actually 'do its job' was a new thing for me with the lasers.

Dont forget, i live in Nottingham so i know all about f'ing cameras! LOLz0rs.
They are yet again putting up more specs camera poles on another stretch of Notts road. Notts was first to trial them, first to use them and carries on putting them up.
It is nice to go away in the UK and never actually see my Road Angel even light up at all!
Then i get back home and spend all my time with it lit up almost permanently.

The specs ones are easy to get around just change lanes. Provided you exit the specs area in a different lane to the one you entered you will not get a ticket... so the rumour goes. Think this has been confirmed on TV recently.

The only thing that works against lasers are jammers, but be careful, I believe they now have photo imaging and when the laser registers an error, they have got your plate. If this happens a few times on the same plate, they'll be at it's registered address with a search...
The laser has got you within a third of a second. Think you may be able to argue over varing weather conditions i.e. fog, mist or rain as the transmit / recieve is not accurate. Radar detectors are ok, but be careful to select that right one. Ku band. K band and Ka, x etc.. things like traffic lights, revolving doors ect.. get the mute button ready !!!
I run in stealth mode !!!.. 14 years, clean license.. !!:norty:

Round these parts 89mph if its BiB, but depends if its SCP or local police... IME.

Speed Cameras Explained

SVXNUT 08 April 2007 09:47 AM

Drove past a VASCAR on the M53 on the Wirrell yesterday at 85 on C Control
It was on the opposite carriagway on one of those pork hills!! just around the corner at Queensferry, so I didn't see it. Are they allowed to catch you from the opposite carriageway, and as it was dry and sunny do you think they will have had it running at that low a speed. I don't know the Wirrell cops limits!!
