does vf34=more power???

If I change my standard P1's VF28 turbo to a VF34 and have a remap, will that by itself give me more power?

d4zza 07 April 2007 09:04 AM

anyone?

scoobysmiff 07 April 2007 09:29 AM

yes, although you would want a few more additions to get the best from it,
Full decat, pannel filter etc

d4zza 07 April 2007 09:57 AM

what kind of power gains would I be looking at with just the VF34 and remap?

P1 FEK 07 April 2007 10:02 AM

I ran 320bhp with the standard VF28 on my P1 and now running 350bhp with a VF34. Great turbo, very similar spool to the standard VF28 but with more top end. 350bhp is about as far as you can go with a VF34, but if that's what your after powerwise it's ideal.
As above really a decat and decent panel filter to really make the most of it.

So if I were to get, for example, an H&S exhausts system with decat, panel filter, VF34 and remap, what kind of power would I be looking at then?

scoobysmiff 07 April 2007 10:21 AM

its possible you could see 340 on this turbo with basic mods to compliment,

Try a Revolution 3" exhaust mated to an RCMS down pipe. You could also look at ported headers and a different up pipe, this will help things along nicely.
Just about any pannel flter will be ok, even the Std Sti one is quite good, so if you have one of them in your P1 then that may not be needed

A 3 port boost solenoid will help the mapper control your boost, put a Walbro fuel pump on it as well.

Not a worth while upgrade in my opinion. Unless you come by the VF34 at a very reasonable price.

I've had both turbos on similar spec engines and very little difference between them.

My current car has extensive mods and am now in the process of swapping the VF28 for a rotated GT30R setup. The last dyno run at scooby clinic saw 360bhp and 322 ft lbs from my VF28 and that was on a conservative map.

So think twice before spending your money on the VF34 although it is a very nice turbo indeed.

360 from a VF28 ? .... rotfl, now you could get close with a VF34.

2.5 litre ?

cheers

Funny that Bob thats what the guys at the clinic said they wouldnt have believed it either had they not dyno'd the car before a rebuild and substanital mods and it made 330 prior to the build.
I'll give you a run down of before and after mods and it would be interesting to see what you think then. Here goes:

330 run was following spec.

STI version 5 engine 92mm pistons
GT spec headers
440 cc injectors
ECUTEK ecu mapped by Andy to 1.5bar
Top Mount intercooler
TSL group A down pipe
TSL centre section 2.5 in
TSL Firestorm back box
APS Cold air Feed with Blits Mesh filter.

I had a fuel presuure reg failure that made one of the pistons run lean an lead to a failure so I built the engine to the following spec which produced 360 bhp spec as follows:

STI 9 crank
Roger Clark Modified main and big end bearing set.
Eagle Rods with ARP bolts
Wiseco Forged Pistons 93mm
ARP head bolts
Cometic head gaskets
Apexi 740cc Injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Mocom racing parrallel fuel rails
Braided fuel hoses
Goodridge fuel fittings
SX fuel pressure regulator
GTspec Headers
TSL group A Downpipe
Buddy Club 3 inch racing spec exhaust system
Apexi Power FC
APS Cold air Intake.
Blitz mesh Air filter
Scoobyclinic Frontmounted Intercooler

Incedently before you claim that this would be a nice advert for scooby clinic and they could influence the dyno all they did was dyno the car I built the engine myself.

Now considering the before and after mods on the same rollers and the same sort of air temp I dont think the gains are that unrealistic do you Bob?

Fair enough about inaccuracy of rollers but many people have said how good the clinics are. If it was Well Lane then fair enough.

Just to add a little more to my statement a friend of mine has an EVO FQ340 and an outing to a strip late part of last year showed that whilst they were neck and neck off the mark mine started to pull away after the 100 mph area.

No reply then Bob?

Sorry to hijack the post folks, but what`s the maximum i could get safley out of my turbo on my Version 6 please?? V29 it`s been mapped by Pat @ 1.4 bar, i guess a RR would be the best way to find out...:o
