Classic Suspension

I always thought my WRX sat quite high but the ride felt firm and seemed reasonably flat through the twisties but after my track day last Saturday I have been forced to reconsider my evaluation of the suspension on my WRX. Like I said you dont really notice how bad it is on everyday road driving but on the track it honestly felt like I was in my wifes Megane, the body roll was quite severe.

I was curious to find out what suspension you all had, do you have just springs with standard shocks? do you have a sports suspension kit? or do you have coilovers? how far did it lower your car? what make do you have and if you dont mind me askin how much did they set you back? where would you reccomend to get a good deal? have any of you been forced to replace an aftermarket kit on your car due to finding it no better than standard?

I have read that Eibach springs would lower a UK classic Impreza anything between 20-30mm but would not lower an import, is this true?

Unfortunately I do not have a money tree just yet so I dont know if I can go down the coilover road but your comments on them would be valuable all the same.

Thanks folks and sorry for all the questions.

If its just the odd track day that you are trying to improve the body control on - then you might want to consider getting a whiteline rear adjustable anti roll bar & some solid drop links 1st.. If you havenet already. Thats what I did with my MY00 and it improved things so much. Then I added the whiteline ALK / front drop links / powerstation bumpsteer removal & 4wheel alignment. [ but again its something you can do in stages as funds allow ]

Thanks for that Jim, I am liking your plan, incidently I already have Whitline drop links in the front.

What are the standard struts on a WRX like for handling a drop?

most helpfull guys, still want to hear everyone elses experiences though :thumb:

Hold everything!

Easiest is to swap out the ARBs for stiffer ones. If you get the whiteline adjustable rear, you can stiffen it up for the track, too.

are the anti roll bars on a type R thicker than the WRX?

just had tein superstreet coilovers fitted to my94 classic and the difference is amazing, whiteline adjustable rear anti roll bar and drop links and anti lift kit make a difference as well.

As of 23rd April, I'll have the following setup on my classic...

Eibach springs
Brand new KYB shocks
STi top mounts
Whiteline anti-lift kit
Bump-steer mod
Camber bolts
Full allignment

I already have rear droplinks.

I might also order a 22mm rear ARB and some steel front droplinks (and front ARB bushes).

I'm hoping all that will sort the suspension out for a while. I can't afford coilovers right now, perhaps the future.

Apparently the Eibach spring drop varies. Some people claim they only lower 15mm even on UK cars. Once mine are done I'll take some measurements.
