Eccentric bolt on Suspension Strut.
Eccentric bolt at the bottom of the front struts. Whats it for?

Camber adjustment bolts.

I've recently changed the shocks. How do should I set it?
|
When i changed my shocks, i took a measurement from the shock tube to where the bolts go through. Bolted it all up, replicated the measurement and then took it for a 4 wheel alignment!
Best thing to do would be to go for an alignment to get everything spot on and get the most out of your new shocks. JM. |
Thanks bud.

Set it so that the wheel has Minimum camber, (lumpy part of the bolt facing out, nuts facing forwards) then take it to an alignment specialist.
Much easier to adjust from minimum than it is from maximum. :thumb: Andy |
Ah.... When I did the shocks I set it at maximum camber. What difference will this make?
What is the purpose of the bolt, I mean how does camber alter the characteristics of the car? Can anyone explain in detail? |
Cars do not run static camber of 0 degrees because during cornering, suspension loads result in deformation and an increase in positive camber.
The dynamic camber becomes more positive as a car corners. To combat this effect and ensure that as much of the tyre is in contact with the road surface during cornering, cars are always setup with negative static camber to compensate for the changes in camber during cornering. Too much negative camber will reduce straight line grip under braking, tramlining and lead to excessive tyre wear on the inside edges. Different driving styles can also influence the desired camber angle. An enthusiastic driver who corners faster than a reserved driver will get more cornering grip and longer tire life from a tyre aligned with more negative camber. Andy. |
Tranlining eh? Certainly got more of that since I did the shocks. Now I understand I can fix it. So I need to find a happy medium? Cheers..

What you need is a decent Alignment yea. :D

Would anyone care to pass on any info on what angles I should be aiming for?
|
Dan: get it down to Power Station and let a guy called Andy fix it for you. You will not be dissapointed at all. They have done mine twice now on my racer.

How much is it to get it done at a garage?

Ive recently fitted springs and a few other bits and had it set up after, as to camber id give it as much as the bolts will allow, u wont get anymore then -1.15 most people fit a better camber kit or adjustable top mounts so they can dial in more negative( - )camber,
so in future If i strip mine down i will just set it at its max - camber. hope that makes some sense. atb Brett |
If you clicky the link above listed are Whitelines reccommended settings.. 1degree fot the front, so I have set it at max then a 1/4 turn back for now.
